Do you believe in karma?

A few times recently on myLot I have found myself saying how much I believe in Karma. For those who don't know, in Buddhist teaching, Karma is defined as the consequences of your actions/decisions, whether they are intentional or not. In other words, "Do not do to others, what you do not want done to you". Some people would just describe it simply as "What goes around, comes around". I am not a religious person at all but I do believe in what goes around, comes around. In other words, if you are cruel to another person or to an animal, at some stage you will get that back ten-fold. Also, if you do a good deed it will come back to you too! So what do you believe? Do you believe in Karma? Do you have any examples of when it has happened to you, or to people you know?

Hi rosie, Yes, I would have to say that even though I am not a religious person I believe in karma bigtime! I truly believe in the saying what goes around comes around! Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear!

Hiya Rosie, and I am one of the firm believers in karma :) And very much so too. I also know that there are karmic laws that we should not break, as, when we do break these - we pay, sooner or later we always do. It's somewhat difficult however to see that there are people that always DO BAD AND CRUEL THINGS, YET, they are not bothered at all by the karmic laws, and somehow life for them goes on wheels. Than I start wondering when will the karma start working for them, and why not sooner as they do not deserve it to be so well off, and have no problems whatsoever, even though they live by breaking every karmic law. I know that they will get the bill, but what if it will be in their next lifetime, when they will have no idea why the bad luck, and how come they don't have all the chances as the others have. You see what I am talking about? If we get "punished" by the karma in the same lifetime - we know pretty well what is happening and why. While it happens in another lifetime we have no idea whatsoever why our lives are as miserable as it can be. And how can this be changed? Don't you even wonder my friend? TheFortunes

Hi my friend, and yes I know you are a huge believer in the karmic laws. I understand what you are saying about bad people never seeming to suffer for the things they have done in this life, and you know I have a problem with accepting the idea of reincarnation because it is a little too intangible for me. It is all a very hard question to answer.

I strongly believe in karma, what comes around and that, as well as being a stronger believer in fate. Whatever you give out you get back in return. Those people who are nasty to others or spread nothing but hate get it back twofold, it may not be straight away but in years to come whatever bad karma they have spread will come back and haunt them. So even if you think someone has got away with something bad today, you can guarantee that sometime, some place they will get the bad karma back at them.

I most definitely believe in Karma. As a matter of fact, I have seen it in action many times, and that has strengthened my beliefs. I feel that the best way to go about living is to always try to do your best. If you are doing your best, you can't go wrong. Always be kind to animals and your fellow man.

Personally I do not believe in Karma, there are too many counter-factuals to believe that the Karmic effect takes place in the same life time. The alternative version in which the conditions of this life are the punishment or reward for a previous life are just an excuse to blame the poor and under-privileged for their own condition and reassure the consciences of the rich and powerful that oppress them. Perhaps that is way in India there are millions that live in poverty and oppression. all the best urban

I'm not a great believer in practically anything..i am a big skeptical, so i wont' say i state that karma doesn't exist...i just think my rationality doesn't allow me to state it does exist. Anyway, i know that believing that it exists helps many people to carry on with their lives, and that's a good thing.

Well I am normally very sceptical too Lightnin', but there is something about Karma that I do believe in. Maybe, as you say, it's because I WANT to believe in it because it makes some things easier to accept. Thanks for responding.
