Ewwwwww! I am sorry but I am one that really hates FRUIT CAKE. I have recieved a few in my lifetime and I do eat the candied fruit in the cake but not the cake itself for some reason. It really isn't that bad tasting but it's just that it is too heavy as far as weight that I feel it is too much to eat based on it's weight. HAHAHAHA! Go figure. So have you ever gotten a fruit cake as a gift around the holidays? Have you ever sent one as a gift? Do you eat it if you do get one? Have you ever baked one? Please share your thoughts/opinions with us. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Actually I'm probably one of the rare few who doesn't mind fruitcake..so hey, if you get a lot, send them to me..LOL Actually what I think tastes even worse?? Plum pudding. My mother told me that my great-grandmother made this every Christmas...my grandmother and mother never made it as they were the worse cooks going, but I inherited my great-grandmother's gift of cooking. So one Christmas I decided to make it...and remember in one of those Christmas Carol movies, Crachett's wife makes it...So I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. That recipe must have had a hundred ingredients..uh, no plums..hehee--it's one of those "puddings" you have to steam for about eight hours So I thought, gee this must be a really special type dessert...uh...nope..believe me it's worse than fruitcake...I've never made it since..LOL All that effort and it tasted like crap

I 'love' plum pudding, pyewacket. My mother used to make it every year at Christmastime. She also made this fabulous sauce to go on it. It was the brown, caramel type, and 'not' the clear stuff. So good! Did you make sauce for your pudding that you tried? This is a traditional food in my background, which is Pennsylvania Dutch (although it's apparently, Pennsylvania German).

I don't hate fruit cake, but I don't really like it too much either. Last year my son wanted to taste it just to see if he liked it or not, so I bought one. He took one bite and said here mom you can have it. lol My grandma loves them so I have bought them for her.

I love to bake different things, but I only can bake one cake which is apple. It is really very tasty and my friends love it. They always ask me to bake some more. I wish I could learn how to bake cheesecake one day, because it is my favoite cake.

I'm not a fan of fruit cake. When I was a kid, my father would get one every year and every year he'd give each of us kids a slice on Christmas. So we kind of had to eat it. Bleh. BUT When I worked at a Harry & David store, we offered samples of a lot of different products we sold, including fruit cake. My think was that even if what we were offering as a sample was something I didn't like, I would try it. That way I could tell customers what was good about it, if anything, even if I didn't like it. I LOVED their fruit cake. It wasn't as heavy as some of the other fruit cakes I've tried, not nearly as dense. It doesn't have as much orange peel flavor (which is what puts most people off). Very molasses-y and moist. So I would tell customers "I can't stand fruit cake... but I love this." Harry & David also has something called fruit cake confection, which is mostly nuts, pineapple and cherries that you might like. It's more of a cake shaped candy than a fruit cake, but it's also really good. Especially if you like the candied fruit in the fruit cake.

I am one of the odd ones that acually likes fruit cake. My Aunt makes a good homemade fruit cake. I have tasted some that weren't any good, too dry, not enough fruit and nuts, etc. If you ever had a taste of some good fruit cake you would probably change your mind.

I don't like fruit cake either..it just looks nasty lol. I don't think I've ever gotten one as a gift. I've never seen anyone actually bake one, I usually just see them in the store shelves around Christmas. They kind of remind me of bricks lol.

Hi Grandpa Bob, Actually, I love fruit cake, and especially the dark kind. My mom used to make one every Christmas, so it was a family tradition. Hers was dark and delicious. The first Christmas after she passed away (I was nineteen), and I decided to 'carry on the tradition.' It didn't turn out half bad, and I was so proud of myself, as it took many hours of preparation. So, if you happen to receive an abundance of them this year, you can send one on up to me, if you'd like. However, make sure you give one to pyewacket before this, as she asked first.:) By the way, I haven't made one since then, because it's so time consuming, so have to settle for a store bought one. Plus, sadly, my mom's recipe vanished. Thanks for the great memories, once again.

Homemade fruitcake is the best, Grandpa Bob, and I must say, I've never tasted one as good as the ones my mom made, all of those years ago. Yum.:)

I really hate fruit cake. Especially the store bought ones. However I have been known to pick out all the fruit and just eat the cake. The amount of cake must add up to a tablespoon for all the fruit that is in that one small piece. I have decided to make my christmas cake a boiled molasses cake. It is tender, moist and so delicious. You can serve it with a nice cheesecake icing or serve it plain. I am inclined to serve it plain as it really does stand on its own beautifully. Doesn anyone else have a choice cake that they perfer over the old fashioned standard the Christmas Cake?

It has a typical crust. Then the filling is a whipped chocoalte cream filling. It is topped with whipped cream and shaved curls of real chocolate. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well... I hate em too. My aunt makes some, and the smell of it keeps me away from her kitchen. And besides, why would i give someone something i don't like for a present? If i get one, i think I'll keep it in my fridge... and probably serve it for visitors... I certainly won't eat it. Never. Or probably just say "Sorry, I'm allergic to fruit cakes. But thanks anyway."

I love fruit cake. I have never made my own, but my Mother has & hers are excellent. Some of the bought fruit cakes are very good too. I think it is a combination of the fruit & strong flavours. Sometimes we have Christmas Cake at that time of the year, which is really a fruit cake. I don't usually receive cake as gifts, not do I give cake as a gift.

I have and no sweety I don't like them either so I always pass them on to someone who will eat and enjoy them! Like you I just feel they are too rich and heavy and make me want to boak! Christmas cake /wedding cake etc are all just as bad as each other! It is really funny because my mother in law always buys a Christmas Cake even though none of us like it - she feels it would be weird not to have one in the house even though she always ends up throwing them out! xxx
