What's For Dinner...

Ok, this is a soul searching question and if you don't want to answer truthfully that's ok.
I recently watched the Hannibal series and read a news report about an aspiring horror novelist who ate his g/f and it made me wonder something. Would I ever reach a point of eating human flesh or would I die first. What extreme would I have to be to in order to even consider doing it. No one wants to think they are capable of doing something so unspeakable but if the circumstances were against you, who's to say. I can honestly say, sitting here, that I'd never do it...I'd rather die. But then, I also know views change when you become extremely desperate.
Would you do this to save yourself? Would you rather die? Could you live with ppl knowing you had done this? What would have to drive you to resort to this?

I doubt that I would ever do something like this... although I am sure that the Donner Party thought the same thing as did those soccer players in that plane crash several years ago (at least I think they were soccer players, it's been so long ago since I read about it.
On the plus side it is considered to taste like chicken as many exotic dishes are described, so who knows.
Maybe Hannibal knows something we don't.
I can just see it, looking over the crowds and picking out a nice succulent dinner guest, kind of like looking over a roast in the supermarket... and going "Gee, I wonder how that one would taste?"

I want to say this first. The picture you added with the caption "whats for dinner" and the subject together just made me laugh my butt off lol! I have a kind of morbid sense of humor at times. Well, in this case, I can't say that I wouldn't. I mean there have been several cases throughout history where humans have been forced to survive on human meat. You would be surprised on how many events in history are documented to have involved this practice. I know that there was some during the crusades, egyptians had crushed mummies into powder and sold it for medicinal use, it has even been said that early Jamestown settlers may have done this for survival. I don't know what I would do in order to survive. It is difficult to say when you have a full tummy of pizza lol. I think I would do what it takes to survive and live to see another day.

Thanks for the best response rating! I had forgotten to mention the Donner party during the 1800's, they were stuck in the snow in the mountains on their journey from Illinois to California and that is how they subsisted and survived. It's gross, but very interesting history.

I would rather die of hunger. It's just that I cannot even swallow things that I think might be gross. So even if flesh was the only option, I wouldn't even bother trying to survive b/c I know I wouldn't be able to eat it. Instead, I'd just lie down and sleep and dream of eating until it was all over :)

Oh man...
Eat grass! Eat leaves, eat dirt, eat the bark off trees! Anything other than humans, bugs and raw animal meat! Gross!

The age old question we do not know what we would do until faced with
the problem.We can say no we wouldn't all we want,but if we have not
had that problem we do not really know what we would do.Must would last
as long as they could,but if they had the desire to live they would give
in.Only those willing to give up would not,it's only human nature.If you
have the will to live you will do what ever it takes.

I don't think I would be able to eat a human under any circumstance. I've seen the Hannibal movies and as sick as they are, I find them entertaining to a certain extent but I don't see it as a cooking how to LOL!
Seriously, I think I would eat dirt or grass, weeds - whatever I find along those lines to survive. I read an article some years ago, about children who ate drywall, mud, and other non food items and it turns out their body was instinctively seeking out items to replace missing nutrients.
I guess if it didn't hurt them, it would be my food alternatives rather than a person.
Oh, let me also add ewwww!

It's easy to turn around and say that I'd never eat human flesh but if I was trapped in a situation where it was that or die, I don't really know what I'd do. I don't think you can ever really know what you are capable of until put into a situation where you are truly tested.

To me to eat human flesh would be an ultermate SIN.I would never do that.I have more fear of facing my maker then i fear anything here on earth..I always try to do the things that i feel will be productive to my soul after this life.So no i could never do that at all.I do not think that it will ever get to that point in life but if it should i would have to depend on whatever God provided for me but never would i eat human flesh...I do not think anything could drive me to this point of eating human flesh.

Of course, most people say no way would they eat another human's flesh. However, one never knows what one will do when faced with such a circumstance that they are forced to do anything to survive, Also, if one is to the point of starvation, are they in their right mind? They are probably out of their mind and would do things they normally wouldn't do.
While being of sane mind, the thought of eating human flesh disturbs me,though I cannot say it would ever be an impossible action on my part, especially if I were out of my mind!!

That really is gross, twoey! I ahve always sworn that I could never eat human flesh-under any circumstances. However, your point is a good one. We don't really know what we would do if the situation became desperate enough. I just hope and pray that I never have to find out. And, I definitely would not kill them first.

I saw that article linked to the Drudge report last night and it was alarming not only in that this guy was apparently a serial killer, but also in his careless disregard for any sense of decency whatsoever. Apparently he had part of a body rotting in the closet, which is what got neighbors interested in calling the police, but he had other body parts squirreled away here and there in even more inappropriate places.
It is challenging enough to having to consider whether you would gnaw on your own limbs to stay alive in a starvation situation, but how people can behave so sickly with no apparent cause or reward other than becoming notorious and forcing society to have to think up appropriate punishment is beyond me.

I don't think I would ever or could ever bring myself to eat another person. Thats....gross. I don't even think that the circumstance sourrounding the situation could even get me to do that. Not even for Fear Factor.

Yuck no and never.. I can't see myself eating another human that is totally wrong.. I think I'd starve before I did that or like kill a bird before I ate a human.. Though there are people out there that do such things just so they don't have to be hungry.. I am not sure where I heard this but I did hear people can live with out food as long as they have water... Though I am sure they would be extreamly weak though..

Oh gross, no way!! I would never be able to eat human flesh. I'd rather die and I still wouldn't change my mind if I was stuck somewhere with nothing to eat.

I would hope that I would die first before eating humans! There was a discussion about eating bats and I think I would starve before eating a bat too! That is so gross~ I can't even imagine eating another person.
