I know that legaly we are adults when we turn 18 (in most countries) but does that number make you an adult. Do you thing that someone who has done a lot has a mature vews and understanding and all but he is 16 can be considered adult more than a 20 year old who thinks money grow on trees and the world revolves around him.

I became an adult the day our daughter was born and put into my arms. She was the one who brang out the adult in me and made me start to think like one,act and become one who protected her.Being an adult is not made from age catergorys.I think its made from being more mature, actually knowing whats right and wrong, responsible and willing/learning how to sacrifice things that others cannot and knowing that lifes not always rainbows and butterflies.:)This is what my daughter taught me about turning into an adult at the age of 30 years old.Hehe:)

No i dont think i would say the same thing. Its because i planned my pregnancy for her at the age of 30.I was not ready before that and wanted to experience alot of stuff before hand and make sure that i was really ready for the responsibility.I grew up old fashioned and stayed away from the opposite kind in that area for not to become pregnant at a young age.I have cousins who had children at the ages of 13 years old,the other at the age of 16 and another at the age of 14.Its very young and they were still experiencing life and they felt like it was taken away to young for them. This is just the way i feel though.Thats why i made sure nothing like that happened to me.:)At 16 i was having fun and being a teenager and all its fun that came along with the age catergory, hehe.:)

I forgot to add, that sometimes some girls have a child at a very young age and they are more mature than some adults. It all depends how they face stuff.I also have a friend how had a child when she was 16 and was more mature than me,haha. She was a very good mom to her son and loved him so much.I was just talking about "me"on how"I"became an adult and found it,haha.:)

I don't think being an adult has much to do with age it is more to do with when you are able to care for yourself and stand on your own two feet. !!HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

It is hard to put an age on it as some people are more mature than some other. What is the definition of maturity anyway? An 18 year old can act like a very mature person by being responsible... but it does not always have the knowledge and experience to make the right decisions. On the other end of the scale... you can have a total immature 50 year old... because all of its life it has refused to take any responsability for itself. It acts like a child and refuse to grow up. In astrology... maturity is set between the ages of 29 and 36. And to me... that make a lot of sense... because it gives you the time to gain some life experience. The law use the age of 18. It says that at 18... you are old enough to be responsible for yourself. I beg to differ. Without experience... your responsability is minimal. You cannot be responsible for something that you know nothing about. If you never had a drink in your life... and get drunk on your 18 birthday... and go and do something stupid... how can you be responsible? You did not had a clue about what you were doing... But the law is the law.

that was my whole point the special birthday 18 does not make you an adult. I have another point also say in USA you can go fight for your country at 18 but you cant have a drink.

I know... I have asked that question many times myself. You cannot do anything until the age of 21 in America. If you lock your 18 year old in his bedroom for the weekend... it is child abuse. If you send him to war... it is patriotism.

Hi violeta, I agree, Some are adults at 16, and even younger, others are not adults at 25 or 30. Blessings.

thanks for your comment. I know this girl she is 17 and she is so mature in her understanding of life and all that. She has experienced so much in her life more than half of us would in 50 years of life.

I think that we become adults when we take our life in our own hands. When you make your own decision when you start making your own life.

It's my belief that we are adults when our brains fully develop. This can be anywhere between the age of 25 to 28. Even though people may act older than their age, their brain is still growing.

the barin is fully developed by the age of 18 (I know this because of my ocupation) a child can only be declared intelectually disabled after he /she turnes 18 because that when the brain stopes developing.
