Would people be against stem cells if they could get them from the cord?

I'm curious myself at what some of you think. I mean i'm all for stem cell research in general. I mean might as well make some societal use out of abortion right? (yeah i'm gonna get flamed for that one). I mean from what I can determine the only real opposition to it is due to the fact they use embryo's since they haven't quite perfected any other way to get them. (Personally I figure there's probably some in the umbilical cord.) Anyway, what do you think. If they don't have to use embryo's anymore would you be against stem cell research?

There already IS a way to get them from the umbilical cord. And if that was the way they did stem cell research, then I would be OK with it.

Uh, just an FYI, the only tag I left was bias.

Yeah I know, they do have a way. Though, I'm not sure how easy and or numerous as yet the amount of cells are. Might need to look into it some more, just to get some details I think. I admit, i'm more curious on people's thoughts than actual detail of how to's at the moment. Thanks for the reply!

Weird. How the heck did legalized murder get up there? I hope mylot doesn't just stick things like that in.. because no one else did unless they have a way to tag without responding?

I believe that stem cell research will go on but not here in the States because people think it is murdering an unborn baby.As long as they are in power, there won't be any research done here but that doesn't mean it wont happen. I see it happening in Europe ans Asia. Which means that for the first time there will be American doctors ans scientists having to go to Europe to do their research instead of all the great scientists coming here to do research. It will be interesting to see when a treatment for AIDS or spinal injuries are found and they require stem cells. Will the treatment be banned in the U.S.?

"Anyway, what do you think. If they don't have to use embryo's anymore would you be against stem cell research" Well truth be told I'm all for stem cell research regardless of how its done...Embryos, Um. Cord, whatever....I think its important research and if the aborted fetuses are just getting tossed anyway then WHY NOT put them to good use IMO..and Um.Cords can just be an added bonus method I guess you could say....Why anyone would be against it in the first place (stem cell research) is beyond me..I mean really what harm is being done?? Now granted I dont knwo much about the process but from what I do understand no living thing is harmed so whats the issue anyway ya know?

I agree with you fully on this. Especially about putting the aborted material to use. The only reason people whine and complain and get all passionately against this is that they believe an embryo is the same as a kid that kicks me in the back of my chair on airplanes. It's alive, but not yet a life. Heck, a lot of those embryos don't even take and get flushed out. Is that murder too? Ah well. I've always been about people's freedom to choose, so sadly even if the people calling this legalized murder want to troll in leave a message tag and leave, it's their right.
