When I lived with my grandmother she often made her own brad and it was so good. She would shape it into loave or biscuits before baking. When it would come out of the oven She would let it set long enough to beable to slice the loaves and the biscuits cool enought to handle. They had their own cows and Grandma would churn her own butter and we would put enough on the biscuits to be dripping as we ate them. There was nothering better for supper unless it was her home mad chicken and dumplings. I used to make my own bread too until my hand got crippled with arthritse. Do you ever make your own bread? Punching the dough can be a good stress releiver as well as taste good.

I have never tried a bread machine but will have to if I want fresh home made bread. I like the feel of the dough as it comes to gether and kneading it is a great stress reliever. as you are knwadinf t you can punch it all you want because you almost can't over work it.

Isn't it the pilbury dough boy that say there's nothing says loving like something from the oven? maybe a bread machine would allow you to make bread. It's better annd cheaper than the store and you know what goes into it.

I love home made bread. Do try to make different kinds like rye or pumpernickle. My grandkids love cinnamon rolls with their chili. Guess I make some tomorrow.

Yes I love making homemade bread!! The rolls are the best though because you won't have to wait too long for them to cool off =) I love fresh bread with butter...yummy!!

Yep. The first time was when I was 10! It turned out so good too. Thanks to my dad giving me advice and pointers I was able to make a good loaf. I was mad I didn't make two though. Nowadays I bake when I can.

Is it nice when dads help to teach us to cook. I had the privilage of teaching my daughter-in-law how to make bread. She kept trying but it wouldn't raise. She couldn't get the water tempature right.

Yes I used to. But there's not much time for that anymore and it makes me sad.

I grew up with my grandmother making fresh breads all the time. She taught me all of her recipes and I still make my own breads to this day. My grandmother lived with my parents on our dairy farm, so I also grew up with them making butter...nothing like fresh homemade butter, is there!?! (Especially on warm homemade bread...yum!) I have arthritis in the hands too, so I got a breadmaker that makes loaves in the traditional shape. It's not quite the same, but it still tastes like homemade. When the holiday meals come around, I still make traditional hand-kneaded breads. Nice memories of grandma, now you've got me reminiscing on her in the kitchen serving our family with love!

Grandmas are like that (the love) aren't they? I got a bread machine from the thrisft store and onlu use it for the first kneading because thats all it's good for. The important thing is the home made taste.

I still make home made bread, mostly with my breadmaker, but sometimes by hand. I like to make braided loaves with sesame seeds sprinkled over the top. There's nothing better than the smell of baking bread in the house.

I love homemade bread. The house smells so good while it is baking. Sometimes if I am pressed for time I will cheat and buy the frozen bread dough. It's pretty good, but not as good as homemade from scratch.

Hi deebomb, OOOHHH YYYUUUUMMMMYYYYYY!! I make my own hone whole wheat bread every other day. I make one loaf at a time because it is only my husband and I. But, I have to cheat a little, I use a bread maker to make the dough for me. I recently broke my right wrist and am not able to do too much of the kneading needed to make the bread dough. My bread maker has a dough setting that I use. It takes 1 1/2 hours to mix and rise, then I need it gently and shape into a loaf, let it rise 45 minutes, bake at 350 for 25 minutes and cool thoroughly. Enjoy, it is delicious. This recipe will not bake correctly in my breadmaker, and I don't know why. But this way the bread comes out perfect.. Happy posting..

I love whole wheat bread. I also like to put seed and nuts in my bread. The texture is so much better than that that you buy from the stores. I have a used bread make that I use it to just mix and knead it. That is all that works on the machine. Sorry about your wrist. I hope it getts better soon. God Bless
