Do you believe that peace is still possible?

For thousands of years, humanity has had this great dream of someday of making the globe a peaceful and harmonious place to live in. Past leaders had been expecting that future generations will eventually find this elusive peace for all. However, try as we might, instead of getting close to this great dream pf worldwide peace, humanity has gone to the other direction -- a direction of destruction and indifference to each other. Instead of finding peace for all, we find ourselves in quandary, in the bottomless pit of quarrelling with each other. Nations are rising against nations, races attaching other races, people enslaving other people, establishments exploiting weaknesses of other entities, and the list goes on and on. With all of these developments, I am wondering if the most ideal dream of peace for all is still possible. What about you? Do you think peace is still a possibility in our time? How I wish it is…

...World peace is not possible in our time. There are too many faces of evil in the world for there to be world peace. ...However, I believe peace begins from within. I have to be at peace with myself before I can so my children what peace is. Jesus said to His disiples, "Peace be with you." This is were peace begins. ...PBWY =(^;^)= Della

tombiz, I believe you are right, I don't see any hope of us coming out of this descending spiral we are in! It's not going to stop until we hit the very bottom, and we start all over again, just like history has taught us! The good news is; I won't be here to see this; the bad news is my children may still be here to see the end! I only pray to God, to help me prepare my children for the future, so they will not be so helpless!

Well musicman, you've spoken just what everybody feels. But does it end with it? We all can say, yes what has to happen will happen and it can't be avoided. But, I think the least we can do if not the best, is continuing to live with positive thinking and do our best to guide our children on the right path so they can learn to defend themselves and build a better environment. We must not lose courage and at least do our best in inculcating good moral and spiritual habits in them. It is our duty. The rest is in God's hands. But we must do our best. What say?

Cobradene, these are very wise words of wisdom! Sometimes my passion overrides my reasoning! But the bottom line is, yes we have to maintain a positive attitude, and leave the rest in God's hands! Thank you for your words of consolation!

war - there are people who are in the business of war
It will be very difficult to attain true and lasting world peace. There are greedy people who are in the business of war. Whenever there's too much peace, they'll manipulate things in order to start or justify a new war. President John F. Kennedy, one of the men I admire, was assassinated because he was a man of peace. He refused to go to war with the Soviet Union/Cuba. There are even rumors that the terror attacks of 9/11 were staged or allowed to happen in order to justify the present "war on terrorism". And with fossil fuels starting to run out and the price of crude oil at record high, things can only get worse.

Hi wisedragon, JFK. Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Long live the dreams of John F Kennedy.

Hello tombiz, You have a good perception of the world today and I would blame technology for that. Not saying that technology is a bad thing because it is not, yet the modern lifestyles fashioned by technology make life too fast and people do not stop to take the time to look at what they left behind, nor at the things that really matter. Yet we can not leave it to others to instil peace for us, we must do it ourselves, not simply you or I, but the people of all nations. There must come a time when people realise the futility of war and say; no more, we want no more. It will a time when the people stand together as one, so perhaps what we should try to do is stand together now and keep the dream of world peace alive.
