I have uses one particular margarine for most of my adult life. I won't mention the name, but some of you can probably figure it out. I always loved it because it was rich and did basically "taste like real butter". Well last week I bought my old reliable and noticed it had a new design on its container. Said "new and improved creamy taste and texture. I brought it home and when I opened it the first thing I noticed was that the rich yellow color was now a pasty white. I spread some on a roll and noticed that it spread more like whipped cream that you buy in the plastic cartons than the old rich smooth texture I was used to. Next came the taste test. YUCK. It had the consistency of whip cream to. It was like eating air. Where was my nice rich creamy margerine? I sat there looking at it and then I remembered something from my childhood. My mother (in an effort to stretch her food budget money as far as she could) used to buy one pound of margerine quarters (you know the kind that has 4 sticks in the box) and let them soften to room temperature then put them in a mixing bowl with a little milk and whip it. She called it whipped butter, but in all honesty we were just a little on the poor side. This is exactly what they gave done to my favorite margerine. Instead of leaving the quality alone and just raising there prices (which in essences is what they have done by diluting it) they just decided to reduce the quality and still charge the same amount. Well, needless to say I went online and sent them an e-mail telling them that I would now look for a different margerine and what I thought about there diluting theirs. Has anyone else noticed this kind of scam with other products. I was just wondering.

I can't believe it's the same stuff! - butter container
I haven't noticed it with anything else but this one I definitely have! It's one of my favorites too. I'm sure they are going to see a decline in sales very fast.

Thanks for your input. I am glad someone else noticed this. I sent the manufacturers a e-mail and told them that I knew they had just diluted the marjarine and that I would be looking at other brand now. I will let you know if I get a response.

UPDATE - In case anyone is interested I wanted to let you know that I finally got a response to the e-mail that I sent to the manufactures of my former favorite margarine. They sent me an e-mail thanking me for my (negative)comments and assured me that it would be passed on the the appropriate office and that I would be recieving a letter in the mail. Well, I finally got the later which said basically the same thing as the e-mail. But they also sent me a coupon for a free one of the item I had complained about ??? Now why would I want a free something that I told them was terrible???

You are so right twoey. It seems more and more of the consumers hard earned dollars goes into some companies profit margin. Don't they realize that if they make us to mad they could end up losing money instead of making more? Power to the consumer. We are not stupid.

Some will go to great lengths to convince the public that the product is new and improved only to fail because they changed the recipe. When this happens I just look for another product that meets my standards.
