Allright, Hubby's still asleep so he doesn't know this yet but I am so proud of myself that I have to share it. Hubby LOVES coconut creame pies...I mean absolutely loves them. I can make a basic pie (though I like pumpkin) but I've never made the merinque before. I've put it off and put it off and finally after 7 years of us being together I broke down and tried it this morning. The pie part went fine and the merinques wasn't all that hard although I just found out that I was supposed to add sugar to it which I didn't. Hopefully, it's still allright. He promised he would even eat the mess-ups so either way they will get eaten. The picture below is the two pies I made this morning. What do you think? Do they look allright? Do you think he will be surprised? Have you ever had to learn how to make a certain thing for your spouse or partner? What was the hardest thing? Do you like the dish as well as they do? !!HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

good on for you, we are some time afraid to try something, only to find out it is not all that difficult to begin with, but I refer to my failures as one more way on how not to do that. Like I know 247 ways on how not to thread my sewing machine, and I will eventually get the one right one. So try any thing at least onece, unless it will harm you or others , again great looking pies

Good for you! I did the same when I was first married. I spend a morning trying to make meringe until it looked all right. I mastered it after several attempts but as of late I haven't made any pies! Bet he will enjoy them no matter what!

They both look very good to me. I have never made coconut pies but I have made meringe topping before I think it was for lemon pie. I am sure it will still taste good. Looks great for the first time.

oh twoeye, they look great. I hate making meringue, I leave that to my mom. I think the sugar added would have made the merigue higher. I am also sure he will love them. Good job trying. My hubby loves asparagus and I hate it. After 18 years together I still cannot bring myself to cook them. Yuck!! We both like cherry pie and I can make a mean cherry pie for sure. I do pretty good with pumpkin too, my favorite.

Congrads.I don't cook but I can bake. I haven't had to learn to bake something for someone special but as long as it doesn't need molasses or blueberries,I don't like the smell of these two, I am willing to try.

Congratulations on your first meringue! I love coconut pie, also. Do you do mail outs? They look great! I cook a lot of things for my husband that I don't like, and that includes just about any kind of seafood!

Im sure that your hubby will love your pies, twoey. The important thing is that you made them with love. I will have to go to the main discussion to view them and give my opinion on how they turned out. The first time I made a blackberry pie for my uncle I forgot to put sugar in the pie at all, lol.

Well the store-bought meringue pies are all two sweet anyway. The purpose of sugar in the recipe is just to make it rise higher, and yours look fine just the way they are. If you do decide to add a little bit of sugar next time, just be sure to wait and fold it in AFTER the egg white are beaten or it will be a puddle, lol. Congratulations on a great start, and now that you see how easy it is, I'll be you will be making your hubby's favorite treat quite often. Mmmmmmm!

how sweet of you and yes, they look absolutely yummy to me. As for the meringue I would not worry too much, coconut cream pie is very sweet without the mernguue and will probably be just fine. Adding sugar is a tiny part of making a good meringue, though you'll find it makes it a bit easier to get it pretty and golden on top, won't take as much time, so watch the sweetened next one closely. You meriingue looks fluffy and honey gold on top, the sign of a good one. Lucky man, I too love them, wish I could be there to share lol.

I love your witch frog, she is adorable. As for the pies they look good too. I have made merinque before. I know you have to have the bowl and beaters cold. The egg whites too, add the sugar slowly, I don't remember any other tips. It was a long time ago when I last made it. I like doing it the easy way. I use cool whip it is so much better. Your hubby is going to be so happy, good going.

I think you did a great job and they look good enough for me to eat. I know what you mean about making something for your spouse or the thing they love to eat the most. For me it was Home Made Noodles. My ex mother in law taught me how to make them for my ex and my kids from a family thing they had that all the woman in the family had to know how to make the noodle to carry on for the holidays, we I got so good at making them that to this day my kids will not eat any other noodles but mine. I feel so bad for who ever my boys marry I guess I will have to teach their future wifes. LOL.

Congratulations to you! It must feel really good to know that he will have such a sweet surprise when he wakes up. I also have learned to make things that my husband makes. Although, he has these cinnamon rolls that his mom makes with a made from scratch dough that he likes and I haven't been able to master them at all. I don't like them and so I really don't care to learn to make them. Plus, his mom has always made stuff at his request- home made cookies at 10 p.m., cakes after dinner, etc. and I just don't want to do that. He gets mad when I say it is too late, but he has learned that I just won't do it!
