My day at the hospital for my 1st injection....This is how it went...

I got there at 6am and changed into a gown..I was given an IV..Around 730am I went into a room and then this is what took place.... The female nurse was playing Country Music (pretty loud)..The X-ray guy didn't want to have any music (because he said he couldn't hear the doctor)...Meanwhile my doctor is talking in French and Italian...He is neither French or Italian....LOL They put something in my IV but I was awake the whole time...listening to what was going on...They were discussing Kerry Underwood winning American Idol... On to the injection...He numbed the area and put the needle in on the left side of my spine just below my neck...That is not were I felt it..It felt like he was jaming that stuff into my right side, shoulder blade... The biggest thing I was told was, "DO NOT MOVE"...Just before he injects it I hear (barely, due to the music) the x-ray guy saying, "okay don't move"...and I didn't... I got back to my room and when I sat up my right arm hurt..I am thinking okay, maybe that is going to be temporary...It has been a week and it still hurts around the shoulder blade, my neck on the right side hurts now, and my hand tingles on my right side....I went in for them to fix the left not right....Hopefully this is all temporary...It is my first shot so I didn't know what to expect.. What an experience that was.....My next injection is October 29th...Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

I would definately tell the hospital administration about your experiences. Hospital workers should be concerned with the comfort of the people they are attending to. I think that if I were their boss I would like to know what kind of treatment they are giving so I could right it before we get into trouble. Im sorry you went through that. You will be in my thoughts.

Thank you Happy...I was upset...I forgot to mention about the nurse acually throwing the IV bag over my chest to the x-ray guy...I am torn between complaining now or waiting to see how they act before I get my next one...I think they were in a good, happy mood but lets be real...Thank you...HUGS

You poor dear! What in the hell were they doing? They should have made the atmosphere more comfortable for you ,not them. I would have been outraged! I would the hospital and tell them about your experience. What kind of injection were they giving you? God bless you

I forgot to mention that when the nurse was giving the x-ray guy my IV bag, she THREW it and it skimmed across my chest....I said, "AM I GOING TO BE SAFE IN HERE WITH YOU GUYS?" I am thinking about going to the director of the hospital and telling him about my experience...I was getting a coritzone injection in my neck due to a herniated disk..If I would have moved he could have injected it into my spinal cord and that would have be horrible...Thank you

I definately think you should report this to the administrater. Both the medical part and most definately their behavior. They sound very unprofessional and when it comes to health you really do want professionals working on you. Good luck and let us know the out come.

This sounds a little scary. I am afraid I would be looking for another doctor (preferably one who spoke English) and verifying that they did it right. Doesn't sound like they did. Hope everything turns out ok. I will say a little prayer for you that it does.

The way you describe teh pain, feeling like he was jamming the needle in and then ache and tingly feelings sounds like he hit a nerve. You have all kinds of nerves branching out from your spine. They are pretty sensitive and hurt exactly how you describe. I had a guy hit a nerve in my arm once when I was giving blood and it just kept aching. It finally went away, but it sure wasn't pleasant. Has your pain gone away yet? Nerves are fragile also, it's scary how easy it is to damage one, which can cause lifelong problems. If the pain is going away, then it's fine. If not, let the Dr. know!!
