Is it even possible? I have read so many postings and threads with regards to working at home from various forums and chat sites. Most of them are posted by people who made it successful. But these people are also not local Singaporeans. I am curious. How many Singaporeans actually successfully started a home business? How many of them are still working on their home business? How many of them quite their day jobs for their work-at-home jobs? I really interested to know and would be very happy to see who actually made it in Singapore.

I totally agree with you. I guess it is a cost vs business sense dilemma. On one hand, they want to see that you are physically at the office working. On the other hand, they want to save cost. So the current solution is to hire you at a lower salary. I have seen many articles in the papers discussing the benefits of having a workforce that allows the employees to work from home. Imagine the amount of office space one can save if the initial structure of the VPN and VoIP is set up? The lowered cost of having to buy the equipment and hosting them (desk cubicle, electricity consumption for equipment, aircon for the building... etc etc) for the employee will save the company many thousands of dollars. And this inturn can translate to a slightly higher salary for the employee too. It is a win win situation. I wonder what are the other considerations for setting up such an environment for employees. I personally find it a win win situation for both the employer and the employee.

You did raise a valid point there. What I was hoping to find out if there are any Singaporeans here who actually work out of their homes? Be it a home-based business or a job. One where they can still earn their keep but work at home. Occassionally going out to meet with customers or go back to office for meetings when there is a need. Cos we have heard so much about it overseas. Where mums can actually write articles for a company and still be at home with their kids. Or where Dad is doing his programming work at home for some software house. You know what I mean?
