As you get older, does time go faster or slower?

It's a mixed bag for me. On a daily basis time goes much slower that it did 10 years ago. Maybe this is because my daughter is an adult or that I'm stubborn and won't rush around. On the other hand, the months and years are speeding by. I think it's because I live in an area that has 4 distinct seasons. What about you? Is your time like a blink of an eye or like an extended stare (:

Sometimes I think times gone by so fast because it's like just yesterday I was a little girl... and I'm not even that old yet. I'd say for the most part it goes by fast. It's like you missed too many things or something because it's gone by so fast and here you are... and where is that? I wonder how I got here sometimes...and I'm like "can't I go back"...can't things slow down a little?

Yes, you're right, we can only go forward. I think that part of the problem is the way that many people have to live their lives. It often requires having too many responsibilities and not enough time to do them all ...

Well you know that saying...that as one gets older time seems to go faster..but if that's the case then I've been "old" since I was about nine years old..LOL Time has always seemed to whiz by me--only maybe because there are so many things I want to do with my life and that has always been the case--for instance...I only got my own computer this past Feb...I thought with my own computer I could FINALLY get a lot done....nope...cause I've only found MORE things to do..I sometimes wish there were sixty hours in a day! So my friend..time has always zipped by me...all too fast..I can't believe for instance how fast this year has gone...but then...I say that every year! LOL

You make me laugh my friend! I relate to the computer dilemma and have had moments when I've wanted to give it a kick in its hard drive lol ... I too watched my childhood vanish and was quite the unprepared young adult. Oh so glad those days are over when we thought we knew everything and were so responsible. The good news? Now I know nothing (:

Hehehe...one of the real truths I've learned...the more one thinks they know, the more they realize one knows nothing....Life seems to be one of constantly learning..and just when you thought you learned all there is to know in life, the more it make you realize..as you say..I don't know nothing...LOL

It seems as that as I get older, time seems to go by even faster. Maybe it is because I am so busy that I do not pay much attention to time. I do not remember time going by this fast when I was younger but now it seems as the days, weeks and months go by faster than I can blink my eyes. When I am bored silly, time goes by really slow. I wish time would slow down a bit.

Faster, faster, faster. Almost incrementally faster! Every day I remember older relatives telling me long ago that when you get old the hours stretch on and you have nothing to do. HAH! If they were alive today, I would tell them something. It is just the opposite. For me the time is most definitely like the blink of an eye.

Sounds like you're on the fast track! I'd tell my relatives the same thing as well and would add a diplomatic way of saying "Get busy!" lol

Faster, it's unbelievable how fast time goes by. Today was my only day off and I was trying to catch up on some chores and some shopping and things and before I knew it, it's already 1:06 a.m. and I need to be in bed....There's not enough time in a day...

Oops gradyslady ... sorry about the weekend comment ... I didn't mean to rub it in your face. I'm hoping that you have at least a few moments of peace during the next several days.

I personnally think that when you get older, the time goes a lot faster. You are more occupied that when you were younger and that's the reason why the time seems to go faster. I don't think it's because of the 4 different seasons like you but it's an interesting point of view. Have a nice day Pete

Hi Pete I can see your point. As we get older we tend to think more about the consequences of our behavior. And of course this takes up time!

Much faster!! As a child, I felt like time oozed by like molasses on a December morning!! Like you, on a daily basis, I feel like time creeps, but I feel like it really has flown. I'm a teacher and I feel like it was just a couple of weeks ago that school started back, and here we are in the 2nd week of the 2nd 9 weeks and only a few weeks away from Thanksgiving.

I can relate to what you're saying about the academic calendar. I use to teach at a university and when the semester began, the next thing I knew it was time for midterms!

What happens is that when your a kid you have no sense of time, your not worried about what time it is you just want to have fun. As you get older everything revolves around time so your more aware of it. You have to do this at 1pm you have to do that 3pm etc... This is what I think

Kids sure do have the luxury of anticipating Christmas. With our commercialized culture it seems like the holidays are one of the most stressful times of the year.

I guess as I grew up, I tend to wonder and was well-aware more of time. Back then, I only play, eat and sleep. But now that we're maturing, we are obliged to take responsibility in our life. We work, so we could support our family. But when we retire and there';s nothing else to do, that's the time where we realize how life passed us by..

I appreciate what you have to say because it's so true. I'm a retired professor and although I don't miss the job, I do reflect on the memories of my students and the wonderful relationships that we had.

For me it seems to go by much faster. It always seems to be Friday again and the last one seems like yesterday. What is worse is that I don't seem to be able to get as much done either. I used to read at least 10 books a month and now I haven't read one in years. I just can't figure out where the time goes.

Faster! I used to play all day and into the night outside as a kid and it seemed like it was 100 hours. As I got older, everything went by faster. Now, days SPEED by, weeks, months, years go by so fast that I sometimes honestly have to stop to remember what year it is! I don't know how to slow it all down but I wish it would seem slower. I know many elderly people feel the time goes by very slowly. I actually look forward to feeling that way but not to being elderly. (Well, as opposed to the alternative, I guess being elderly is OK. lol)

I can relate to what you're saying because I felt the same way as a kid. For some odd reason I always thought that 30 was the best age to be. And 30 came faster than I expected (:
