oh yes. It is (I agree) very common. I think people hear more of it when they start having children or being around them a lot. Warm salt water rinses does wonders, and REMEMBER to NOT share anything from their mouth to yours or vice versa. WASH your hands a lot. When I was little they used to call it "Hoof and mouth" disease. Refering to cows. --but mommy I wasn't with the cows.--- hahaha

I thought thrush was the white build up on the tongues of newborns, due to them not drinking water?

Yes, it is a common virus. It is a mild illness and the rash will disappear in 5 to 7 days. It is common in children and strikes in the summer or fall. Treatment usually just involves ibuprofen and salt water rinses. If you need more info, just let me know. (I'm an R.N.)

wouldn't the salt water rinse hurt though?, they gave my son pediatric stomatitis solution, but it does not list ingridients; doc told me it was a combonation of benadryl, and other meds to reduce swelling.

If the rash is open, yes, it would sting but if the lesions are closed, it wouldn't. Usually the salt rinses are ordered for the older children and teens who get the virus...not for the children.

yea I understand that now , but I have to keep all 5 of my kids home from school, cuz they are starting to get sores in their mouths, and the school nurse said for them to get cheked out before I bring them back to school, so they don't spread the virus at school

I am a parent of 3 and have heard of it very often, the one and only kind of big worry is it is very contagious. Other then that the doctor should have given you some medicine and it will work very well but like atibiotics you must use it until all of the disease or medicine is gone. Good luck with it; it sounds much much scarier then it is.

the doc told me it was a virus, and antibiotics don't work on viruses, and also he said it was just as contagious as the common cold. My son got the sores and meds on friday, and the sores are gone, but not the med and it's tuesday, I hope it's the same duration or shorter for my girls
