Well it is a georgouse autumn day here, sunny, warm and the leaves are beautiful. But it seemed something was missing. So I whipped up a spice cake and added some pecans and raisins Yummmmmm. and popped it in the oven just to add to aroma to the house. The smell is driving me nuts. Can't wait for it to finish and cool so I can add some buttercream frosting and dig in.

Yes, I love to cook bread to make the house smell good or to bake cookies. I live in a 1 1/2 story farm house and it just seems to be missing something without those smells. My house is like the house you would go to, to see Grandma. So it really should smell like Grandma has been baking all day. Take care

How awesome. I just love those old houses. Do you feel that most of the newer homes just don't have the same feeling of hominess and security. Wonder why some people prefer that. Thanks for responding

It feels wonderful. But old houses usually have hidden surprises that cost money, ours did. Just the way it goes sometimes. Take care

Understand that. We bought one that was built in the 70's but had been vacant for over a year because it had been repossed. The neighbors said that truck would show up and people were hauling out anything the could get. They even pried off the trim around windows and doors. Stole cabinets and even the metal covers on the heating vents. Can you imaginge? We have had to do a lot of repairs. Thank goodness my soldier son is a excellent carpenter. Had his own remodeling business befoe going to Iraq last time but had to close it when he left. He took every spare minute he had and fixed everything. He and Bob had to work for a month to get it in shape for us to move in. But You wouldn't believe the beautiful home we now have. I was worth every cent and minute. Thanks for responding. Talk to you later. BSM

You make me hungry with your description. If I want to make the house smell nice I bake something with cinnamon in it.....like an apple crisp....or last week I made Oatmeal Scotchies.....they were sooooooooo good.

Oh yes, cinnamon will fill the house. I love cinnamon things and I also love pecans and they smell good baking to. When it is the middle of winter and I am bored I usually go to the kitchen and bake. It comforts me.

I do during the holidays when guests are coming. Its nice to have something to discuss right away, so there is no moments to just stare at my guests. I enjoy making my guests feel welcome and want to come back again.

I agree and as much as I enjoy it at the holidays and through the winter I don't know why I haven't come up with something to do in the summer months. I do but the little scented wax tarts alot in the summer but it isn't as nice as that home cooking smell. Any ideas on summer scents? Thanks for responding and will talk to you later. BSM

I really want to bake something by myself.I think it is interesting. And the smell is good. But now there isn't an oven in my family. And I don't know how to bake bread or anything.Every time I pass by a bakery, the nice smell will attract me.When I was a child,I wanted to be a baker because I thought I could smelled the smell and ate cakes every day.It was very happy.

How truly sad that you don't have an oven available. But I will bet that if you ever lay your hands on one you will be an incredible baker. You seem to have the love for it that makes a person really good at it. I will send a prayer to my God that he provide you with an oven. Remember - he works in mysterious ways. Hugs BSM

That sounds lovely, I want some - pretty please. I know people pop things in the oven when they are selling their house to give it an appealing smell, baking bread and I think coffee beans to give a homely appealing smell.
