Feds Join Arson Probe in California Blazes

United States

I think this is an absolutely shocking piece of news. I am daily getting more and more disgusted by what heinous crime my fellow man is capable of doing. I really hope the perpetrator(s) of this arson get the maximum sentence against them that the law allows. Why would anyone do this? Federal agents joined the search for evidence Wednesday in brush-covered Orange County hills where an arsonist is believed to have ignited one of the wildfires devastating Southern California. In San Bernardino County, a man suspected of starting a small fire was arrested and another man was shot to death by police after he fled officers who approached to see if he might be trying to set a fire. Wildfires, burning in seven counties, had destroyed about 1,500 homes and caused more than a half-million people to flee since the first blaze began late Saturday. At least two — in Orange and Riverside counties — have been linked to arson. http://news.aol.com/story/_a/feds-join-arson-probe-in-california/20071024191709990001

I cant believe there are people out there that would do such a thing. i lived in san diego last year and they evacuated the place that i lived. its so hard to imagine having to go through all of that devistation. so far two of our friends there have been evacuated. Hopefully this all ends very soon.

I had always said that if I had to move it would be to San Diego. I really loved my stay there and feel so sad to think what is happening to it.

I can't understand why anyone would set a fire, but they do, fires cause such devastation. The problem with arsonists is that they are never cured as it becomes an addiction to them, so they should never be released from prison. I saw in the news yesterday that Pres. Bush was 'Looking Forward' to his visit to California today, not quite the way any normal person would phrase it.

I have also hear that it is an addiction. As far far as the President's unthoughtful comment is concerned that man has made more bloopers than anyone else I have heard of. I don't think his speech writers are any smarter than he is and if that was not a prepared remark then he ought to think before he opens his mouth.

You have to wonder what kind of idiot would do this. The devastation being caused and still being caused is nothing short of a major disaster. Arson, for whatever reason, is a crime and they should be punished.

Some people are just looking for attention..Others possibly revenge..It doesn't make sense because something like this is the ultimate disaster...Because of one or two people, millions are suffering now..And no matter what happens to the perpetrator he will never repay or feel remorse for all that is happening...How cruel...I don't even know what the right punishment would be other than life in prison...

They could put them in prison after making them watch their homes burn to the ground.

I had suspected something of this nature however hubby thought it was started by lightening. My instincts told me differently. Why would they do this, because they're low down rotten scounderals wanting attention. My question is this, why would they want attention for doing something so henious? Why do they want to be know for doing such a horrible crime? I mean, to be remembered is one thing but wouldn't we want to be remembered for doing something good? I hope the judge throws the book at these dirty bags! They all deserve to rot in jail!

It is alarming and disturbing to think that people could be doing this on purpose. I wonder about whether they are mentallly ill? I see from what you posted that it has already cost one perpetrator his life. This is very serious.

i agree, what horrors mankind is capable just gets worse and worse...and happening more often it seems. i certainly hope they catch the arsonist and that the book gets thrown at them for the maximum penalty! those fires have caused such devastation..and they arent even out yet!! i wonder how many major fires are actually started by arson..and for that matter how often that arsonist is CAUGHT! i bet they rarely get the person.

Guh! Completely bogus. Thanks to my day to day activities I haven't been able to keep up on this as I wanted. I was at first sickened then immediately not surprised when I found it was arsonists doing it. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2007/10/24/state/n125813D95.DTL Others were saying that the caught and named arson was a Guatemalan illegal immigrant. And while we're on that subject, apparently some people are trying to steal resources meant for the wildfire victims. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/breakingnews/2007/10/six-undocumente.html
