Do we want Robots as slaves?

India

I have seen many movies where the future is controlled by technologies. Humans got Robots as a slave to do their work and at the end robots will turn back and attack them (remember the movie irobot?). Well that was just a fiction. Sooner or later we may be able to buy robots from markets to do our daily works. Should we need such a technological advancement? Many big companies are trying to create a robot like that and we now got ASIMO from honda. I feel technologies have made most of us lazy. So do we all want a day when we would see robots walking around the house cleaning, going to market etc? I really don't wish for such an advancement.

My microprocessor is analyzing your data input concerning this issue and has come to the determination that you're being somewhat irrational. Robots and humans can co-exist in a straightforward and pleasant manner, as long as there are no glitches...glitches...glitches...glitches...just kidding. :) I see your point but I think the use of robots, as you describe, is inevitable.

vanbuchanan I liked the way you expressed your point :). Well what we see in movies is all a part of the desire of people for such technologies. The research in Artificial Intelligence is growing day by day. ASIMO as I said is a pure example of what could be possible in future. I do have a strong feeling that such a thing could happen in the near future. The idea of such a discussion started from the thought of how much computers have changed the life of people. After computers it would be Robots. Thanks for your response :)

I wouldn't mind a robot slave. Could be useful looking after the shopping. Since I hate shopping with a passion
