Auditions

Tomorrow afternoon I have another audition. I hate 'em. It's just plain nerve wracking. It's hard to go sing without an audience. And you've got to fit in with musicians who're like family. Sometimes it's a stone wall. Other times it's easier. But how can a band expect a person to be at their best under that kind of pressure. The last band I was in wasn't like that. We would let anyone we auditioned hang out for the whole practice and get loosened up. Get the audition-ee relaxed and feeling peaceful. Then we could get a bigger picture of the person and if they would be a good match. I hope this is the band I've been waiting for. Dude says he's an undertaker...for real. Oh boy...wish me luck!

That sounds pretty cool...good luck and all. Be sure to post on here and tell us how it went. I think the hangin' out and letting the auditionee get comfortable is a great approach. Actually, if a band doesn't do it like that you have to wonder about 'em--you know?

Thanks, that's for sure. I used to live in Michigan. That's how we did things there, but Music City is a whole different world. Everyone wants to hear a demo... jeeeesh... Sometimes I want to say "You're a bar band for cryin' out loud. Get a grip." But you know... I'd never get work that way. LOL And anyway I've heard a lot of singers sound really good on a recording and really bad when you hear 'em live. I watched this one girl singer get recorded. She's so bad live, but that recording engineer made her sound like a queen. lol That whole demo thing is a wash, if you ask me.

Yeah, you're right. There are so many tricks anymore due to the digital domain. I mean the auto-tuner is just one approach. If one knows anything about editing and has some creativity--ANYTHING is possible when it comes to recording. Once again, good luck tomorrow. :)
