Does anyone still have their wisdom teeth?

I have all 4 still. One is coming in, and at a weird angle so it's causing me quite a lot of pain. Especially when I yawn or open my mouth wide. Last year, my dentist told me that was the one that will have to broken and extracted in pieces or else they may break my jaw, so OF COURSE that has to be the first one to start coming in causing all the pain. I don't have benefits with my job, and can't afford to pay for the dental surgery out of pocket, so I'm just opting to buy a lot of painkillers and cope with it until I can either afford it or until it becomes an emergency and I can have it done at the hospital. What about the rest of you? Any or all of yours left? How was the surgery and recovery if you had them removed?

My wisdom teeth came in crooked, and they were so impacted, that my dentist at the time who was also a dental surgeon had to put me under to take them out. Even so, the fact that there were impacted affected the teeth besides them, so eventually I had to have them removed. I would think that you would qualify for dental surgery. I would suggest Blue Cross, if you can afford to buy your own insurance though.

Even if I could afford Blue Cross, they have a 3 month disqualification period, which will probably be too late anyway. :(

I have one left out of my original 4 and a new one coming in...figure that out LOL I had the one on top on the right pulled and when he pulled it, he looks at me and says "Well, looks like I'll be doing that again" He explained that there is another wisdom tooth and that it hasn't broke skin yet and come in (b/c the old one was blocking it). I can run my tougue over the spot and feel it under the skin but it hasn't come through yet. I've never heard of this before but evidently it happens. I had all of my wisdom teeth removed in a hospital with what sounds like a similar situation to yours. The difference is that I didn't have any prior warning - over the course of a day my face and neck became swollen and I was in quite a lot of pain. It turned out that one of my teeth was growing into the jaw. They had to operate and cut a section of jaw out (I now have a hole that I can push my finger into!). In your situation I would advise that you get the teeth removed as soon as possible but if you can't afford it I guess that could be a problem. Long-term use of painkillers is never a good thing (for a variety of reasons). I hope you don't have the same problem I did as the surgery was quite serious and the hole it left caused me a lot of problems, for example I got a piece of food stuck in it and my face instantly became swollen and painful - I had to go to casualty to get the piece of food removed! I had to take time off work after the surgery as I wasn't allowed to lift anything or even bend down because of the risk of bleeding from the wound in my gum.

Wisdom teeth make your mouth sore and give you pain. It is unfortunate that dental care is expensive. In my upper jaw I have a wisdom tooth on the left side. I was terrible coming through but it settled down eventually. I have some of the right side wisdom tooth through. I hope that my mouth knows that there is not any room for more of it to come through into my mouth. Good luck.

I still have mine. One was painful but the others were fine. No pain or anything nowadays, at least not yet. Hope it stays that way.

Wisdom teeth - Pull out?
3 of my wisdom teeth were growing into my cheeks and I had to go to the dentist to have them removed. One of them was rotting too because I couldn't clean it properly. The dentist said I was lucky to have it extracted when I did or else it would have cused an infection.

I still have the two upper wisdom teeth. The lower ones i got em extracted before they even subsided just to prevent that they moved the rest of my lower teeth. But in the upper line of teeth there's more space, and they emerged in their proper place, so why removing them? besides, they might be useful one day in case i lost another tooth.

I'm in my 40's and have all my wisdom teeth still. When I was younger my dentist told me that they were coming in straight and I had plenty of room for them. Every once in a while they poke through a bit more and it hurts a little bit, but it's not that painful. I would suggest you get yours pulled out as soon as possible though. As you can see from the other posts, it can be quite painful to wait. Also, the pain pills are not good for you. You're spending money on those that you could use for the dental surgery. You're also doing some liver damage with the pills... Check around and see where the closest dental school is. They usually have clinics where the advanced students do the work for free or VERY low cost. I know plenty of people who have done this around here and it's worked out great for them.

I still have all of my wisdom teeth, and I think I get to keep them. The dentist said there was plenty of room in my big mouth last time I asked about them. The bottom left one is the only one he said I might have a problem with. The top two are both most of the way through and are coming in nice and straight. My husband had his removed right after he got to his first duty station. He wasn't having any problems with them, they just didn't want to deploy him with wisdom teeth, in case they tried to give him problems while he was overseas or something I guess. Anyway, his recovery was pretty easy. But like I said, he wasn't having any issues to start with.

I still have 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth. The 2 on my right side had to come out while I was in boot camp. It wasn't a big deal. They just went in, did what they had to do to get them out (they injected numbing stuff first of course), and then I was given Vicodin for the pain and had to keep gauze in for a while afterward. Wasn't all that horrible. I recommend that you do some research in your area/state and find out if there are any programs that help people out who don't have insurance. Sometimes there are medical insurance programs who will work with you on making payments or nicely decreasing what you have to pay for certain procedures and copayments. I live in VA, and we have a program called Medicaid here for low-income families.

Three of my wisdom teeth were pulled out in the past and it was a very horrible experience. Now one remains and it'll be my headache sometimes. I am afraid one day this wisdom tooth has to be pulled out, too. I hope it will never happen again. I hate to go to see the dentist.
