Did your town move Halloween?

The small city in which I am living does some strange things. Halloween is never celebrated on the day it falls! This year, it was moved back to the 30th...Tuesday night. The city manager said that since Wednesday night is a 'church night' that Halloween had to be moved. It was celebrated last night. One year Halloween fell on a Friday night. Halloween was moved to the Thursday before because Friday is a 'football game night.' Does your town do this? I have never heard of this practice until moving here!

I've never heard of this before. I don't know why anyone would think they can just move Halloween. If it falls on "church night" then I guess that those who go to church won't be trick or treating. The same thing with "football night". Talk about goofy things. "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Oh my goodness. hehehe. In this one horse town I live in people do strange things every day which is to be understood because most of the big population of 800 people are strange as hell to begin with. I've got to level with you though they haven't thought to move Halloween to a different day yet. I know they recognize Halloween however because I went to take the recyclables down to the bins this afternoon and low and behold the town workers had screwed the bin lids down tight. Guess they were expecting a raid or something ??? Take Care.

A nearby small town did that this year because of Wednesday night church. The larger towns have church activities almost every night of the week, so that would not be really significant. When I was growing up in a suburb of Oklahoma City, we always trick or treated on the 30th (unless it was church night) because the 31st was Trick or Treat for Unicef. Volunteers went around and gave us little cardboard bank boxes to collect in, if we wanted to.

Leave it to a man to move Halloween because of a football game! City manager is a man, right? We used to move Halloween when it landed on Sunday because it is a church day. That was back when stores didn't open on Sundays. I think they leave it on the 31st now.

I have heard of it and I think it is really lame. Sorry but when I grew up Halloween was Halloween regardless of what day it fell on. We always went out on the 31st no matter what day it was. And if it was super cold or rainy, we still went out. That was the fun of Halloween.

Hi crazynurse. my town moves Halloween as well. Wed. night is a church night for kids, and being in a small, Christian community, church wins everytime. So, our T or T was on Tuesday night as well. School functions, games, etc. are NEVER on Wed. night for this reason. Most years it's on the 31st--even when it's on Sunday. Fridays and Wed. though are big no-no's. :) Anyway, have a great day!

Our town never has Trick or Treat on Halloween. It is always a different day. The worst that they have done is Halloween was on a Thursday and they had it Sunday afternoon 2-4. It did not go over good at all.

Ours is only moved if it falls on a Friday or Sunday. Too many football games on Friday. We had ours tonight and the weather was great! All the kids had a good time :)
