Do you like to watch out a windown when a storm is coming up?

A storm is brewing! - ocean storm

We are supposed to be in for a good one today...Noel which has turned from a hurricane to a "very bad" storm is just getting started. Since I sat down this morning I've been watching the winds pick up and it's been getting darker as the time passes. The rain just started and it's supposed to be quite a storm. Do you watch out a window when there is a storm brewing? Doesn't it amaze you how fast conditions change right in front of your eyes? Do you get scared or not?

My folks in one regard were great in that they taught me never to be afraid of storms, even thunderstorms. As a small kid one of them, either my mom, grandma and gee, even my great-grandma would sit me in their lap whenever a storm was a brewing and we would watch the storm together. And while I'm not scared of storms, a few months ago, we had the tail end of one of the big storms from a hurricane pass through our area BUT, in the Brooklyn section of NYC (I'm in Queens) there actually was also a tornado! And it affected even our area as I never, ever saw such wind gusts--I was afraid all the trees would be knocked down that's how bad it was

I wish my daughter was like your mom and great grandma. For some reason ...and I had nothing to do with it..lol...my oldest daughter is petrified of storms and now her kids are the same way!

I'm a bit paranoid since living in Texas for ten years and been through a tornato and a lot of close close calls so I now watch the weather through the window, tv and radio because I've got to know what's going on and if I ever need to take cover again. However it can be a pretty site to watch and it was at one time but not anymore thanks to my experiences.

I think I would be paranoid if I lived in Texas too! You get some horrible storms!

I find it very exciting watching a storm from my window. Even better is sitting outside under the pergola watching. As a child, we had hardly any rain where I lived, so when rain accompanied a storm, we found it great to watch. Our dogs get upset in a storm though. The dalmation can sense when a storm is coming well before we can.

Animals have that uncanny way of sensing when a storm is coming. I think they do a better job than the weathermen do don't you?

I do like doing that. The best is sitting outside or being outside while it happens. I'm actually tranquil, serene during the change. But I must admit a nearby sounding lightning strike does elicit a bit of shock.

When we lived in Odessa Texas, we were just south of a town called Goldsmith where tornedos always started or touched down. We'd sit on our front porch and just watch them! IT was absolutely amazing! You don't often get to actually see nature in motion. Here in CA, it is nice to watch the clouds roll in for the occassional rain we get. And I love hte sound of rain!

Watching a tornado has to be an awesome site. I've never seen one in real life only on tv and I'm sure it's a lot different.

I love the smell of rain! Wish they made a scented candle with that fragrance! Such a clean and fresh aroma! I'm in CA with the wild fires. A bit of fresh air would be nice! Anyone know of a CD that has the sounds of rain, thunder etc? No music or background anything, but nice sound of falling rain?

Ilove watching storms! I used to be afraid of them. I was so scared of thunder, and I was so scared we would have a tornado and all die....lol........But now, I love watching out the window when a storm is flying. The pitter patter of the rain calms me. Watching the storm calms me. IDK, maybe Im weird.....lol

lol...I don't think you're weird at all (then again I'm on the weird side!). I like to listen to the rain on the window because it does sound calming even if it's a raging storm!

I am always fascinated by storms and it's devastating power, I would also go out if ever I know I can handle the gusting wind. I know I could learn something from watching it, aside from seeing flying debris and trees uprooted. But when it's believed to be really one of those super storms, I just enjoy myself watching them on windows!;)

The flying debris is what keeps me on this side of the windows. I don't like taking chances like that.

I love watching storms. I'll go outside if I can and sit on the porch. Its awesome sometimes how fast the weather can change. I love the storms that happen on warm summer nights with lightning so bright it makes it almost look like daylight out. I dont get scared. Sometimes I jump if I'm caught off guard by a loud clap of thunder.

I'm not a big fan of lightening and never was. The first sign of it and I am under a bed! lol..

I haven't been close enough to any really strong storms but the ones that I witnessed are something that can be a bit scary - I admit - but at the same time beautiful to watch - specially if I am in a safe position and know that I will not be harmed. Like you I am amazed at how fast it changes and I find it has a beauty of its own. DO I get scared? Well I wouldn't want to be caught outside when one was coming :)

I think it's the way a storm can change so fast is what fascinates me so much. It can be so calm one minute and the next minute watch out for flying objects...!

I do love watching out the window when a storm is coming in. I also like it when I'm outside right at that moment when the air changes and you can just "feel" the storm coming. I was really kind of hoping Noel would do just a little more here but it was a fairly calm day.

It's that "calm before the storm" that you like and I appreciate it too. I just wait to see what's going to happen next!

clouds - I had my camera out while flying across the country and got some great clouds from my window. I usually take them from the earth looking up. These were from the air, looking down!
I love watching storms. I think I inherited it from my father, who always watched them. I am seldom fearful, just cautious. I've watched a few hurricanes here in Florida and tornados in Okla! I do take cover, though when it is dangerous! I think weather is fascinating! I posted a picture of clouds from the topside. Also interesting!

Beautiful picture of those clouds! There have been so many times during storms that I've wished I had my camera with me!

Storms are about the scariest things I know of, ctry. When we have storm warnings I do find myself frequently looking out of the window to see how it is progressing. If the lightning gets too bad, though, I will run for cover. I can't take the really bad lightning. I have been keeping tabs on Noel via the TV and internet. Some places are really catching it!

I'm not a big fan of thunder or lightening either. It's after 6:30 pm here in Boston and all we've experienced so far is a lot of rain and a bit of wind. Looks like we lucked out this time.

Hehe, I kind of like stormy weather and it might be because I had seen quite a few stroms during my childhood, and most of the time when it stormed, our family could stay at homd together, enjoying everything including the weather.. Andy

I love watching storms, I have ever since I was a little kid. In a thunderstorm my brother and our family dog would be hiding under the bed, and I'd be glued to the window watching it lol. It really is amazing how quickly weather conditions can change especially in a storm, my favourite is the thunder and lightening! PurpleTeddyBear.

I love to watch a storm rolling in. I also love to write so much of my writing centers around poetry about such things. Its great to get paid for what you love to do in life. I do not get scared watching the storms roll in and look forward to thunder storm season and will sit out on the porch and watch the storms roll in.
