What is the biggest jump in gas prices that you've seen where you live? When was it? Was it everywhere or just at one station? Did the prices of everything go up accordingly? Has your income gone up, too? Or have your earnings remained flat? Or even gone down? A diner where I live had to close two days a week because people just weren't going. Now they're closed only one day a week, but I can see that second day closed coming again. AFter this week, I'm finding ways to cut down on travel, big time. We're at $3.25 for gas an American gallon at the town's only store right today. What's it where you are? Take care

That's really a world-wide problem...here in our country, prices of gasoline also has gone up by leaps and bounds..however, it seems that people are already resigned to the fact that we are in the mercy of prices of crude oil worldwide, so it is really beyond our control...I guess prices of commodities have gone up, too. Nope, my income is still the same, so we need to do some belt-tightening to survive this crisis, which I hope is just temporary. Is it not that in order to survive, we need to be more forward-looking and prepare for any eventuality...

I hope it is temporary, but if it isn't, it will be really hard. I hope it doesn't create a depression or something. It's bad when any economy depends so much on one thing. The last time prices went up, this one guy started delivering bread with a horse drawn buggy. He looked cute in a straw hat. But once it hits sub-zero up here, I don't think he can keep doing that. Take care

Thank you very much for posting. I'm always interested in what is going on in India and the responces from your country seem to be interesting. Do you have an Imperial Gallon over there or Liters/Litres? Your govenment subsidizes black market gas or is someone steeling gas from the government which ends up on the black market? The last part of what you wrote has me all confused. Thank you for responding and take care.

I was surprised to see gas at $2.81 or something like that today. The other day when I got gas it was $2.61, and that was high for us lately. I try to get gas by where I work, it's usually 5-10 cents cheaper than by my house.

You're still under $3.00? Where are you? 5 to 10 cents cheaper is really good. So yours went up 20 cents? Is that an American Gallon, an Imperial Gallon, or some other method of measure (like litres, liters)? Thanks and take care.

I'm close to Annapolis, MD - between Washington DC and Baltimore. We haven't been up to $3 since summer 2006 I think... The last couple months have been right around $2.60, pretty steady. So this jump for us in the last couple days is HUGE. I know it's going to get back over $3/gallon soon, but I'm not looking forward to it!

Strange how you can be there and I can be here, what a difference there is in prices. I wonder what the prices are in the middle of the country. If you go over 3, goodness knows, we might be 4 by then. I hope not. Take care

Our gas is about $1.05 a litre. We have taxes on that included, and the price went on all over. We do not do much driving, retired, but I sure do not like the idea of gas hikes. It is not as if we live where it is warm all year round and we can walk to the grocery story or go shopping but in winter it really snows here in Winter. Even when we get our gas at a discount, it is not that much lower. Oh by the way, did the oil companies plan the gas hike because your husband came home, or was it a coincidence? :)

I know, gas costs more in areas where there is lots of snow and less where people can walk most of the year. On Fridays, gas is one price in the AM and another in the PM. It's a plot, as soon as someone picks up their paycheck at the end of the day, the price is higher. So they all plan the gas hike for when people are going home. Take care.

Hi writersedge, it's a shame the problems people are facing with the gas prices. Here is a link to find the cheapest gas in your area. Put in your zip code and it will give you a list of all the stations and their prices. Hope it helps. http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

Thank you, Howard, I'm sure you've helped many people today. In our area, there are three places that tend to be cheaper: Buck's, Ganienkeh, and across the bridge to Vermont. When prices get high, the news does some comparison pricing, there isn't much news up here! Take care

Just today, Hun mentioned that our local gas station is up to $3.29, and will probably go higher during the holidays. Later we went 'down the hill' to town, and gas was starting from $3.15 per gallon and going up to $3.37. Hun and I have always planned to do as many errands as possible in one trip to town. He also tries to do his parts runs, supply runs, and checking in with customers in the same day. I grocery shop with our daughter, and there are several 'carpools' when my family comes up for parties.

Yes, we were doing all kinds of stuff like that, but I lost my job and my next one. . .. My hubby works Mon thru Thurs and I work Thurs thru Sun now. He works days and I work evenings. We can only car pool for our volunteer work, but at least that's something! He or I grab groceries on our way home. Sometimes we both buy milk and bread and other times we each think the other one has got it! (This usually happens on Thursdays) You guys sound like you're doing really well with the carpooling and that's great! Take care

I drove past my local gas station here in Minnesota Thursday morning and gas was $2.99. Then about 12 hours later as I drove back by it had gone up to $3.11. Now Sunday night it is back down to $2.99. It's getting ridiculous. I've cut my driving way back as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Wow! You've got roller coaster prices. We had that in the spring. We had one gas station that changed prices three times in one week. Reg price, up and then down. It makes a person think his or her eyes are seeing things. TAke care.

You aren't alone in this Writers, I'm getting reports of gasoline increases from all over. Not surprising since oil is where its at, there is also the seasonal demand straining current supplies, and a little bit of magic numbers on the part of the suppliers. Writers, you take care too. It'll be rough, and some of me fears its just the beginning. While I would like more effort in research of alternate fuels as well as a change in some life and work styles, I feel it'll still be slow going for the former. I'm also not seeing some computer based employers not allowing their people to work from home despite soaring gasoline prices, thats what I'm getting at with the latter.

I really wish more employers would let people work at home. That would help a lot. My husband's job has them working 4 ten hour days instead of 5 eight hour days. I'm working 4 five hour days instead of 5 four hour ones. Actually, it went up slower than I thought it would. A while ago, 90 dollars a barrel was reported, so I thought it would go up faster. I'm really worried about fuel oil. We have some wood chopped, but we can only use that once in awhile, not when we're gone to work. We put a new roof on last year and cut our fuel oil consumption in half, but that still could be a lot of money if things keep going the way they are. Take care and thank you for responding.

HI. I think gas it about that here maybe a little less. Last time i knew it was 3.10 but i think it more. I have seen it jump 20 cents or more at a time. No our income didnt go up. Everything else is going up but our income. Seems everythime we have to go buy something the price has changed on something. Something has got to give. People cant handle this to much longer.

Exactly, that's the point I was trying to lead people to. I liked it way better when my husband and I could car pool and spit the gas in half. I wish someone worked where I work at the same hours. Splitting the price of gas is a big help. There is no real bus system here. It's just for people to go shopping, the hours don't go with people working. No useful rail system either, mostly cargo trains. I'm helping a friend of mine by harvesting whatever we can from the wild. Price Chopper gave away pumpkins that didn't sell before Halloween up here. That was great, I took some free pumpkins for friends and family to help out. I'm trying to combine trips or leave my car in one parking lot and go all over the place by walking. Take care

Our gas prices in pa also jumped 10-15 cents in the past couple of days. Our trips out are limited to when we really need something in order to save a little. Our prices haven't gotten up to 3.25 yet they are around 3.10 for now. I think everyone is feeling the effects of gas prices right now.

I think you're right, I think it is all over. The different speeds at which it goes up are interesting. The post from India is probably the most interesting one so far. Take care and hope we all figure out ways to save gas.

29 cents? Wow! What a wicked jump! How in the world are people supposed to budget for that? Strange the different prices all over. We are really taxed on gas up here, though. Thank you and take care.
