Anyone have an opinion on the Holly wood writers strike?

They are right to strike! Your contract needs to change with the times. Many people now download or buy the season on DVD because who has the time to schedule their life around television? They should get paid off those sales and downloads. The networks are making a killing right now and not spreading the love :)

I think it is only fair that they get some of the money that the production companies get from selling DVDs and downloads of the shows/movies. More and more people will be downloading stuff in the future, so they don't want to under-negotiate like they did on video purchases back in the 80's. Unfortunately, reality TV isn't covered by the writers guild, because it is largely "unscripted" (yeah, right!)so we will actually be seeing more of those shows popping up if the strike drags on too long.

well i suppose that they need to be treated ane valued like everyone else and i have to agree that while writers are incredably important, they are often underpaid! i think they are doing the right thing!

I understand both sides think they are right, but the viewers of television will have to find something else to do, if the strike is long. All of the shows will be able to run new episodes at this time. Shows that haven't been doing well in the ratings are more likely to be aired now.
