baking brownies: the cure to melancholia

Thanks to Hershey’s, I got some baking chocolate and mini Kisses for baking. I had been hooked to making brownies since last week. Today, I made my second batch of brownies. The scent of chocolate cooking in the oven is just wonderful. Even my father echoed the thought when once he came into the kitchen and said, “It’s just wonderful when the kitchen smells good!” Okay, I have to admit, I had been depressed again. Of course, I’m trying to fight it off but a sudden wave of melancholia hit me again last night because I heard a love song over the radio and started pondering about our relationship again. See, I just fall into these swinging moods that at point, I am jolly and then in a few minutes, feel sunken. But this morning, after some teary moments, I set out to bake brownies. I have a small stovetop oven (which my mom had preserved for the last 30 or so years only, so it’s not that old :-) hehe) and I was able to make 4 layers from my recipe. A few moments after I placed the first 2 layers in the oven, the scent of chocolate filled the air. In 30 minutes, I was already slicing the warm and moist chocolate brownies. It didn’t take long for the last traces of melancholia to fade away. I was soon joined by my mom and brother who took turns munching on my new slices. I even set aside some for my boyfriend and his family. I guess depression will come at any time. We just have to deal with it somehow. And today, it was brownies.

well i don't suffer from depressions in the same sense as you do, i am in constant pain becuase of a car accident 20 years ago, so i enjoy doing things such as this (my favourite is to make the pillsbury rolls of cookies)! we all love them, espeically when they are warm!

I love the smell of baked goods through the house. It also helps warm up the house on cold days like today. I made apple crisp yesterday. I love the smell of cinnamon. Baking and cooking help to raise my moods also. It makes me feel good to take care of my family.
