The Rule Of 3

United States

In life there is a thing called the rule of 3. It simply means you can live for 3 minutes without air, 3 days without food and 3 weeks without water. Did you know this?

I don't think this is true. You can live longer without food than you can water. Also I always thought the rule of three was that whatever you send out into the universe, it will come back to you threefold. Like if you steal from someone, you will lose three times as much as you stole from them, but if you are stolen from, you will get back three times as much.

I do apologize. I respond from my e-mail rather than come to the discussion, so I didn't see this until after I posted my response.

No no, no apology necessary. I should apologize since the rest of my response got cut off. I did put in that you had some good "Of 3" statements yourself! Spot on at least in my opinion.

Not exactly true. http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/1999-09/937540022.Gb.r.html A person can live without food for quite some time, usually for many weeks. The body will use its fat and protein stores (muscles) to help it survive. If a person has a lot of fat stores (is very heavy), they will live longer than a person who has very little fat (very thin), so how long a person can survive depends a lot of the person. Of course, if you go without food for a few weeks, you will be very weak since you have been using your own muscles for energy. Water is a different story. A person will die within 3-4 days without water. The size of the person really doesn't make much difference. Thanks for the interesting question. I have heard this and thought it was really interesting...even though I know it isn't exact and there are variables lol. I think it does make a good standard rule. I like the other rule of 3 too..."things happen in 3's". We've had 3 accidents in just under 2 months involving or family members and/or vehicles...I hopw we're done!

Good and interesting rule but I know you can't live without water for more than 3 days...You have that mixed up with the food amount...that is okay though..I knew what you meant..

If you take 3 times the amount of daily iron its toxic (usually fatal) If you sleep about 3 times longer than normal, your metabolism slows and body pains can follow (in a healthy person). If you don't take calcium foods/pills sources at 3 different times a day, your body won't absorb it right. There are 3 stages of life that correspond to a day (sunrise, noon, sunset) There are 3 types of subgene proteins or loci that determine eye color A person is usually active 2 out of 3 blocks of a day (16 hours up, 8 hours rest)

For a moment, I thought that your topic pertains to some sort to a prequel to the book, Rule of Four. lol... Anyway, I must say that this surely seems to be an interesting piece of trivia. Thanks to your good post, I now know what the rule of 3 is essentially all about and, to my mind, it somehow seems to make some sense. Happy myLotting, copperkitten! ;)
