Yet again another recall form a toy made in China, this time the product contains GHB,also know as the Date Rape drug. Why can't we make product here? How much longer are we going to let this happen? Is it worth it to save a few bucks, over the health of our children? I mean I hate to rant but I am so tired of hearin recall after recall, and what is going on in China is anything being done to stop this? i am so scared to buy anything for my daughter's birthday or Christmas! America is in a tough spot with the ecomny and job loss, why can't we build and make our own things here?

Good topic and everyone brings up good points here. It has all been about the might dollar and it was cheaper for companies to have products made for less money which was why they were imported over here. I think putting the safety of children should be first. We should bring the toy making here. It would be a good way to create jobs and bring it locally. Why people would put these toxic materials into toys is beyond me. It makes no sense to put children in harms way like that. There should be tough safety standards too.

Odviously you haven't worked as middle management for any of these companies. Wiseing up would require a miricle. Most of these pompus *#*s buddied their way into an office they have no real training or ability in. Their not concerned with the economy, their concerned with how they look NOW & how much of a quarterly bonus their going to make. Man, seems I'm determined to get myself into trouble yet.

Well it seems everyone is at war wiht the US,maybe this is CHina's way of hitting us where it counts,I would like to think it is just poor suppervison but who knows. We need jobs here, and the companies are losing more than they are saving now and you would think they would wise up and make a change

Because we've sold out. We're now a country of distributers not producers. Most of the production jobs have been sent overseas where materials & manpower are cheaper. They also don't have as strict quality codes which is why all this junk keeps getting made. Companies are too busy looking at their bottom line to notice the effect on the economy & that by sending work overseas their effectively taking away the money from the people who buy their products in the first place. End result, a slow steady downward spiral.

yep you hit the nail on the head with your response. So how much longer with the companies continue to do this, they are losing money with the recalls, and eventually parents will stop buying these products for fear or hurting their children,I for one am going to work hard on only buyng US made stuff this year.

I'm going to have to be the bearer of bad news & have to do it in a way to keep myself out of trouble. I'm in a position to know about this stuff ( not mentioning company's or positions held ). Very little that has the made in the USA label actually is. Many of the parts/components are made overseas then assembled over here. For them to be able to put that sticker/stamp on something all they have to do is add 1 screw, if that. Its more of a promotional gimmic than anything else. Your best option would be to carefully inspect whatever your buying yourself before you give it to your kids. Don't count on the companys selling them to.

I know! it is crazy how many toys have been recalled this year from really well known companies selling EXPENSIVE toys. What i cant understand if these childrens toys are so eexpensive to buy, why have they been cutting every cost to make them?? Where is the money going and how dare they jepordise our childrens safety to save a few dollars an hour per worker! Fisher price and the seaseme street baby range are targeted directly for young toddlers and babies and are reknown for being the safest and most durable, i guess this isn't the reputation they want any more and are more into the cheap and tacky market!

I am going to make gifts for ppl this year and that way I know the things I give aren't going to kill anyone. I guess it's going to reach the point where ppl are going to start making and growing their own things just to be sure they are safe. Actually most of my gifts ARE intended to be able to kill someone. Everyone know that though & their all equally twisted so there's no problem.

Mooch started a similar discussion on this last night. It is ashame that this has happened. But then again maybe it will be a wake up call for corporate America to bring back jobs to the states, since they are losing big bucks on these recalls.

what i get out of it. is that it is not being done by the factory workers itself, its in the plastic or paint, they dont "MAKE PLASTIC OR PAINT" they order that stuff from a company, and the facorys are the ones who put the toys together, now i might be wrong. but i did see a thing on the news when they found the led in it, they do buy the paint somewere else and they are supposed to always check the paint but for some reason they did not... anyways! even if the factory workers are doing it. they probally arent doing it because they dont like us,but because they want the factory to see they need to be paid more. i mean would u want to bust your butts 7 days a week to make 50 cents and hour/??....not me... I am not sure what i think they should do to fox it besides just dont eccept their toys. better safe then sorry!...our kids can find opther things to do while they get there stiff together here to start mkaing toys or make a contract with other countrys,,somthing needs to be done.

You have a point there, now that I have had time to think about it,and the points you make are true,I know they work for nothing over there, and I don't think it's right. I just wish we us and them could fix this and stop these things from happening.

The Chinese government should learn to take these matters very seriously-it is affecting their economic credentials, I am going to be very affraid to buy anything from chona if this continues, is someone telling me that a whole powerful country like China is operating without a quality assurance mechanism? Why then is this recall phenomena so common there?

Did you know that 90% of all toys sold in North America are made in China? Companies here outsource the production to China because workers get paid as little as 50 cents per hour and these multinational companies push for ever cheaper prices from their Chinese manufacturers. So our demand for ever cheaper toys drives these Chinese companies to cut corners big time. I am with you. I am so tired also and scared. I became a grandmother recently and have spent whole afternoons going from department store to department store without success to find a simple thing such as a teething toy or rattle made in Europe, Canada or the US. Sears and Walmart both told me they had no such baby items that were not made in China. I finally went to small boutique like stores and found a teething toy made in France but it was $38 versus a teething ring at Sears would have been $6.99. In Canada we also had another recall of Fisher Price items, this time Curious George stuff. Recently when I was in Europe I found some nice wooden toys made in Germany and in the Czech Republic. I was also impressed with the honesty of one store owner. I brought over toy after toy and put it on the counter and he told me each time whether or not is was made in China. He also informed me that even with the label Made in Germany 30% of the toy could be made elsewhere and did not have to be disclosed. Most stuffed animals anywhere in the world are made in China. In Germany there are some stuffed toys made in Germany but in this store they were kept in a locked glass cabinet since they are three times as expensive as the other stuffed animals. In the meantime I have searched the internet for toys made in Canada and the US. There are some companies. I am afraid my granddaughter will have fewer toys since they are expensive but having fewer toys may not be a bad thing either. Good luck in your search.

that's the sad truth, labels aren't always honest, and it cost more for toys that have a true label on them, why? I understand the cheap cost everyone wants to save money, but isn't there a way to not cut corners and to keep our kids save? The Curious George recall goes all the way back to some that were made in 2005! So for 2 years a child was being exposed to lead and/or other things, why the wait to recall? Shouldn't it have been done in 2005?

It is getting to the point that they are going to have to do something. We have let all of our companies pack up and go to other countries and brought their factories here. It is sad that our jobs were replaced with jobs that pay just a little over min. wage and most without ins. or pensions. Why could we have kept them here and gave them the same tax breaks that we give the foriegn companies. Now we have no control of what is coming in. I hear that Hershey's is going out and moving to Mexico. I think the government better open their eyes and fast. I do think it is probably to late, but something really needs to be done. I have bought one toy so far for Christmas and am not sure how many more that I am going to buy.

I applaud you this post is awesome my friend, and I agree whole heartedly! When will The Us goverment wise up? And I can't believe another good company like Hershey's is leaving as well, but Mexico isn't as bad as over seas, where it is way more leanate at safety.

Americans wont work for a quarter an hour like some places will. If we started to make our own items here they would all cost a fortune for us to buy. I will not pay $50 for a doll for my daughter but I am afraid if it was all made in America that is what he tag would say. I know there needs to be a soultion in all of this but I just dont see an obvious one.

We can't make anything here because Americans are too lazy and greedy to work in factories making minimum wage making toys for kids. In China, those people are paid about $15-20 a week and live in government housing, similar to dorm rooms in college and all their bills are paid if they work for the government in a warehouse making items to be shipped out overseas. Do you think Americans are going to work for a takehome pay of roughly $250 every two weeks after taxes? I lived off of minimum wage. It sucks. But I did it.
