Honeymoon period!

My son’s diabetes has recently gone into remission following three months treatment with insulin. I have been told that this is the ‘honeymoon period’ and is likely to last only a few weeks or a few months.
My question is, is there any way this honeymoon period can be extended and turned into cure?
