I had my neighbors dogs removed

Don't get me wrong, I have two dogs myself, but enough is enough. I finally called animal control on my neighbor. Where I live (in the middle of a city) you are allowed 3 dogs. Well, she had 3, then 4, then the other night I let my dogs out and a huge dog jumped the fence (#5 I guess) and scared the daylights out of me. WE have been dealing with her outdoor cats for months. Doing their business in our yard, teasing my dogs, scratching the paint job on my hubbies car. It's ridiculous! I have tried to talk to her and she just doesn't care. The kicker was when my 4 year old was yelling about a "white bird" on our porch. I looked outside and it was a chicken! No Joke! So I'm like where the heck did a chicken come from in the middle of a city? Not even 5 minutes later here comes crazy neighbor with a cat carrier, chasing her chicken around my yard! She caught it and took it home. I'd had enough, If I wanted to live on a farm I would've bought a house in the country. So I called animal control, and they came to her house and investigated, and removed her animals. My hubby says I am a total a$$ for doing this, but really, doesn't it get to a point where it's considered animal cruelty? I think I did the right thing. Especially since the addition of that huge mean dog. Now I can let my kids out back to play in their own yard without worrying what will be jumping the fence.

There is usually a good reason for rules. If the rule is for 3 dogs then that is for everyone. When someone ignores the rule then I agree you need to report them. She would have probably reported you it the shoe was on the other foot. There is no sin in being a law abiding citizen.

Irrisponsable pet owners are a big problem. They treat them as posessions instead of considering the animal's happiness or the effects on the comunity. Sorry you had to deal with this.

OMG I would have done the same thing. Animals is one of the reason's I couldn't stay with my ex he has 5 dogs and 5 cats and some rodent. There was no way in hell my kids were gonna be raised in that mess. Now I live out in the country with a ton of land and we have 5 cats 3 dogs a bunch of chickens a horse and a goat LOL but they are outside and there is plenty of room for them to run and play since we are on a quarter section(its about the size of 10-15 city blocks). Animal control really needs to try to control the problem before they get the point of it being animal cruelty. In the city the most your allowed is 2 animals. Geesh thats all anyone really needs. But yea tell your hubby your not the only one that would call animal control. Hugs

I hadn't originally intended for them to remove all of her animals, just take what was over the limit and talk to her. Well, they took them all because none of them were registered or had current shots. Which really concerns me since one of her cats was in my yard, my dog cornered it and it scratched the daylights out of my dog, his poor little face was so tore up! That was when I first went to talk to her and she just doesn't care, told me that my dog shouldn't have chased her cat, even though it was in my yard!

Your hubby thinks that of you?!? WTF?? He's suppose to be your highest supporter!! I'd have to ask him "How much is too much? What was I suppose to do? Keep on letting it go on happening? Do I wait till one of our kids gets bitten then do something?" It seems to me that your hubby is out of order in this instance.

We have every reason to believe this woman is mentally unstable. She never has visitors and my hubby thinks that I took all of her companionship away. He's not being nasty to me, more of a teasing would be the best way to put it. I hate to see any animal end up at the pound and he knows it, he also knows I had the neighborhoods best interests at heart.

Well as for the cats, I can understand that she has no control over them because they do have a mind of their own and will go elsewhere to do their business because they don't like to dirty their own space however when it comes to dogs, they can be fenced in in one way or another so they don't get out. If they're not controlled then the person has no business having them, companions or not. If they're not being cared for then the pound is the next best place for them so in hopes they'll find better homes or unfortunetly to be put down. I hate to see the latter happen (with a passion!) but it's better than being in a uncared for home or on the streets. I hope hubby lightens up on the issue for I'm sure it bothers you no matter how he says it. Hold your head up for you did the right thing.

It sounds like she was not in control of her animals. I just hope she doesn't become nasty toward you now. In our town, you cannot even let a cat run loose. It has to be on a leash.

We have leash laws too. There has been a couple times I have let my dogs out, gone to let them back in and they have been gone. Each time I found them over at her house. She comes into our backyard and takes the dogs because she thinks they need some playtime with her animals. My hubby talked to her about that a couple months back, and then she started going to retrieve my other neighbors dog!! We all have fenced in yards, so I think it takes a lot of nerve to enter peoples property like that. I'm telling you the woman is nuts.

Well, if animal control came and took all the pets away, instead of taking only enough to get the population down to the allowed 3 dogs, that probably means they found evidence that she was unable to care properly for any of them and removed them for the pets' safety. And if she was keeping a chicken in her house, I'm sure it wasn't sanitary, those are dirty birds! :-) Hopefully, the animal control officers saw that she is a bit mentally "off" and have put her in touch with other city services to help her out. I think you were right to call, since her unconrtolled dogs could have been a threat to you or your kids. I had to do the same thing to some neighbors of ours who seem a bit slow. They had one dog that kept getting out all the time because they are unable to figure out how to keep their front door closed. (another neighbor called Child services because the 2 year old kid kept ending up outside alone next tot he street as well!)It's a pretty busy street, so that dog would have gotten hit eventually. Eventuallly, the dog was taken away because tey were unable to control it.and the kid mostly lives with his fater now, from what I can tell).

Your top priority is to protect your children, so I think you did the right thing. Especially the fact taht she has dirty animals like chickens running around and spreading germs on your porch. Yuck!! Do you think this woman knows you are the one that called animal control?

It was an anonymous phone call, but I wouldn't be surprised if she had the idea that it was us, even though it could've been a handful of neighbors. Just a side note, I saw one of my neighbors walking a dog that looked exactly like one that was removed from her house and they said they went to get it back from the pound. I was curious and she said they left "Dudley" out one day, came home and he was gone. The neighbor had stolen him and when the cops were called the dog couldn't be identified 100% because there was no chip in it's neck and it answered to every name it was called, so when the other neighbor heard what happened they got their dog back, this time with a chip in his neck.

Well soccermom, I think you did the right thing because it seems as though you had to worry about the safety of your children. If a dog jumps fences onto your property, you have to be concerned about your children and your own pets. And animal control would not have removed the animals unless they saw unfit conditions. I have two cats that live indoors. If they were allowed outside, I would not tolerate another animal coming into my yard bothering them. I say you did the right thing. I hope the animals go to good homes now...take care...

The rule for dogs in that city is 3 and she went over that. She also had a dog who scared the bejeebers out of you and could have hopped the fence and harmed your kids so the way I see it that lady was a very irresponsible pet owner! PurpleTeddyBear.

I would have done the same thing. I don't think you were wrong in the slightest. I have seen some crazy things, but when you said the lady came over with a pet carrier and started chasing her chicken around your yard, that would have been the last straw for me. I couldn't help but laugh. If you have to live in fear of your kids playing in YOUR yard that's a problem. She doesn't pay your mortgage so she shouldn't invade your privacy or have that many animals that effect the quality of your life. There are rules to abide by and she apparently doesn't care. So, yeah, I am glad you did that. Lets just hope that she doesn't try this again!

I think you did the best that you could..Now animal control will be the ones deciding whether she can have them back or what will happen..You are not to blame and you saw a potential problem and tried to rememdy it..Having children is a concern with neighbors dogs..I agree with you...She should not be letting her cats outside and I don't quite understand the logic of a chicken...

i just cant imagine how funny it is to be in that scenario. but i guess you have done the right thing. and you did it very well because instead of changing hurtful words with your negihber it is much better to ask the help of the authority. keep up the good work... hahaha
