How Much do you recycle?

November 14, 2007 4:19am CST
How much do you recycle? do you consciously make the decision to recycle or do you just use schemes that are collected from your home? What do you recycle? do you have special bins? I try to recycle everything but it's so hard. I recycle paper in my blue bag which is collected from my home, in my green bin goes glass and cans, I have a clear bag for garden waste and cardboard. I try and remember to recycle milk cartons (a girl at work takes them) and it seems like i'm getting rid of quite a lot but my bin is always full every two weeks. we need a bin for plastics.

We are lucky where we live as every fortnight a truck comes around to collect all our recycled paper, bottles and cardboard so it encourages us to recycle. We recycle everything, even food which we put in the compost bin and makes great compost to grow organic vegetables. We have separate bins to put bottles, paper etc... In fact it has become a habit now and we recycle without having to be reminded.

We were told that it wasn't suitable to have a bin with a green lid for garden waste and cardboard at my flat and were only given the plastic bags. Our flat is in the garden and we have a normal black wheelie bin but they wouldn't give us the other one. I think if we did actually have the bin i'd remember to put in more cardboard waste than I do right now. Somebody stole our green bin the second week I had it out, I ended up getting a nother from the depot and painting my address on it (the other just had a sticker with my address on) Last week when I collected our new bin I noticed somebody in the flats where we live had taken the bin and didn't even bother to take our address of it.

I recycle as much as possible. It is a hard thing to do as you need the time and the space to do it. I live in a small apartment, and thats what limits me to as much recycling as I want to.

my apartment isn't a bad size and i'm lucky to live on the ground floor and with my own entrance/garden area. Because I wasn't given a small wheelie bin for cardboard and garden waste I have to use a clear plastic bag which gets full up so easily and lives me my living room making it look a mess! It's not fair I want a wheelie bin for it.

I sometimes forget what I can recycle, my partner is useless he throws nearly everything away then complains that the bin is full. I had to tell him off last week in a way you'd tell a child off.

Hi anonymous. I did my recycled activities once in a month as in my country our government encourage Malaysian to concern about recycling items, and in Malaysia recycle day falls on November 11, 2007. My government has published a salient website ; http://www.kpkt.gov.my/kitarsemula/home.aspx In my insert photo our government has provided special recycle bins to the respective items accordingly to its color; indigo for glass, blue for paper, and brown for aluminium. HAPPY LUCKY. **prettyhanan**

Our government scheme seems a bit hit and miss. Since we've changed to every two weeks it's gone a bit sloppy. When I moved to my flat I had to phone up to get a recycling box but it never came, in the end I had to go to the waste depot to get one whhich was then stolen the second time I put it out although I got it back in the end.

When I lived in Nebraska I was able to recycle almost everything. Well only 1 and 2 plastics, tin and aluminum cans, I could take plastic bags to a couple of shops for recycling, all the paper and cardboard could be recycled and I could compost kitchen scraps. But when I moved to Colorado, I couldn't find a place to recycle anything but newspaper, then finally after I had been here about 5 years my apartment complex announced that we would have recycling pick up. We don't need to sort. They accept plastics 1 and 2, all tearable paper, tin and aluminum cans. Still having a problem with finding a place for cardboard and as I no longer have a yard I cannot do kitchen scraps.

Congratulations for doing your share to protect our environment. I'm an environmentalist myself, so of course I also go out of my way to recycle. I'm very thankful that here where I live a lot of recycling goes on. Food waste is collected by the barangay (smallest government unit) and turned into fertilizer. I collect all plastics, cans and paper, then I bring them to a junk shop in exchange for cash. This way the garbage truck doesn't have to collect so much trash from our house and dumpsites don't get filled up so fast.

We have 1 bin for everything that gets collected every 2 weeks. It's HUGE. It can take cardboard, paperboard, plastic and glass bottles, glass jars, aluminum foil, paper... all kinds of stuff. I recycle everything that I can. Of course, with just 2 of us it doesn't fill up that fast. I put it out about once a month.

when I was living in Germany we had one huge container in garage for paper and other one for plastic. So it was easy to recycle. Also containers for glass was only few minutes walk from our house. Right now we don't have anything like this in our city in usa, so we can't really recycle, even if i would like to. We already ask about it and they say they are doing it on dump, what i think it 's only doble work.

I recycle pretty much everything that I can. We have some bins in the basement that we sort the stuff into so that when we take it to the recycle depot it's easier to do. Depending on the time of year, we go to the depot about once every two weeks and someimes not for up to a month.
