Dogs In The City

How many of you dog owners live in a city? By city I mean like Philly, New York, St Louis, Atlanta...like in the city, not on the outskirts. After school I'll most likely be moving to a larger city with my dogs & I'm wondering how your dogs like it? Do you take them to dog parks & such? I'm also curious (and I hate to be gross) about the poo laws in cities. I know when you walk your dog & they do their business you have to clean it up. And the only ways I know going about this are via baggie or pooper-scooper. Which do you use & why? I would think a scooper would be less icky to deal with, but I would think it would be annoying to carry around while walking the dog, but baggies just seem very icky... Are there any other options for this that I don't know about?

i live in the suburbs now but i lived in China for a while in a city bigger than even New York City. And I had a dog. NO ONE there had big dogs, little dogs are key because they're just practical. Little dogs take up less space, their barks are littler, poo's are littler, etc, etc. Pooper scoopers are REALLY annoying to carry around, especially in a city. I'd just go with the bag. Its a lot more discreet. A tip: try to get your dog to poo before you go for a walk...a lot of times your dog won't feel the need to poop during your walk. I was lucky where i lived and had a tiny year so we had the dog poop there and cleaned it up. I know some who live in apt's with no grass whatsoever who litter train their little dogs, so there's a thought. But yea, stay away from having a big dog if youre going to be living right in a big city, you'll just get frustrated, and so will your neighbors!

Thanks for your input! I'm going to try & go for a medium sized to smaller dog if I can. But it really all comes down to what breed of dog would be best for my training. I guess I'll just have to talk with the trainers at school & ask their advice

LOL. I lived in the city for most of my life. Dogs are happy so long as they have a yard to run in or you take them to the park. Make sure your dog is up to date on all its shots. You can get a fine or your dog taken away if there not up to date on shots. Make sure its tags are on its collar and the dog wears a collar everytime its out. And yes when your dog goes you have to pick it up. The best way is a plastic bag. Turn inside out and put your hand in it then turn right side out with poo inside. You dont have to touch it. Then tie the bag up and hang on leash, then you dont have to carry it. Theres really no easier way.
