Do you hate those phone calls?

I get a lot of telephone solicitor calls. I hate them. Most of the time they are trying to sell me something. Sometimes they just hang up. I always know when they are from a solicitor because I have call display and the number shows a toll free number. If I don't answer them they just keep calling back till I do. So I just answer them and tell them I'm not interested. Sometimes they don't want to take this as an answer and it's hard to get them off the phone. At these times I end up hanging up on them. What do you do?

Do you have the Do Not Call List where you live? If you register your telephone number - telemarketers or solicitors are not allowed by law to contact you. The website to register your telephone number (you can even register a cell phone number too) is donotcall.gov. That should put a stop to solicitors calling you. Before the do not call list was in place I too tried to be nice to them and then would end up hanging up on them because they just don't quit!! I know it's their job and at least they are doing something honest for a living but telemarketing should be stopped as it is harassing at times.

Thank you for the info. I've heard of this but didn't know the number or how to find out what it is. I will look at this site and register. Thank you so much. My mother and sisters will also appreciate this info. We just discussed this problem last night when playing cards at my mom's house.

Well, I did it. I put my house phone number and my cell number on the list. I also did my moms for her and told my sisters about it. They say they are going to do theirs too. So, again, thank you so much.

oh yes we get them a lot when we moved into the house. but after a while we don't get many because I don't always answer the phone. my voice mail does most of the job. telemarketers don't like voice mails, even if they do I can just delete it. I don't know about getting it unlisted I may try

I know what you mean, the constant ringing and selling drives me absolutely cuckoo! I live in the UK and they will ring up morning, noon and night, sometimes recordings. They can be so rude at the end of the line, it's an invasion of privacy and I am going to find out who I need to talk to to get them stopped.

yeah tell me about it. we have it on display like private number btu I always pick it up, because it can be my dad too, since he is calling from Europe his number doesn't show. those people can be really annoying. I have one woman calling here all the time and ask for such and such name and if I said she has wrong number, she said oh doesn't matter, I was wonder if you are interested....and she keep talking and alking..i just say i am not interested and hung up.

I also get these calls. But where im at if you don't want them to call you you can tell them to take your name off the call list and they are suppose to do it. It is suppose to work and sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't but if they do call you back you can get them for harrasment.

hello! sells house calls, calls from banks for sanction of loans are very much irritating. they don't bother whether we actually want it or whether we can pay for it.they repeatedly disturb for the same purpose.in that case you don't respond.let the phone go on ringing.it only the way to avoid them you will see after some days they will stop calling.alternatively, you say send me your product free of cost or at a high discount rate for your trial. .....they will stop disturbing.i have done this with a bank official.he stopped calling.

Well if your using a home phone I would suggest taking your number off the phone book. If your using a cell phone then I wouldnt enter your phone number anywhere online. People will grab your phone number and sell it to a telemarketing company. If all else fails just ask them what kind of panties there wearing :)

We have an answer phone the "screns" calls. i can hear who it is and pick up if I want to. But if I do get a solicitor and want to "play" I'll pick it up and say Hello and they will ask for someone and I'll say "hold on, I'll get her" and just lay the phone down on the counter. Don't hang up, just lay the handset down and go back to what I was doing and just laugh at what I can just imagen they are saying! But then I thought, I should got and pick it up and just listen to waht they are saying! But i have not had any solicitors call since then!!!!
