When I was a little girl every winter we would have little camphor blocks pinned to our underwear, gees I loved that smell, I haven't heard of anyone using these today, and I wonder if they really did stop us from getting colds, to be honest I never was sick or had colds in those days, ever.

It's funny you should bring up a discussion about camphor blocks lilaclady, because just yesterday I bought two of them! We have just moved house and the wardrobes smell a bit musty, so I've hung them in our wardrobes. I just love the smell. I remember my mother using them when I was little, but the two I've just bought don't seem to smell as strong!

I actually haven't seen them around since i was a little girl but every winter my mum used to put one in a little cotton bag and pin it to my inderwear and I hardly ever got colds and it is good to keep in with your clothes to stop the bug.. it has a very hard to explain aroma, I like it...

i still remember camphor blocks as they are still available at my locality. But we no longer attach them with our clothes. Camphor blocks are sometimes used in religious purpose and sometime to purify water.

I remember... In fact my grandmother still uses those as she doesn't like modern antimoth chemicals.

The only way I can discribe is a little square block that sort of smells like I suppose moth balls but a bit different, I don't know what it is made of maybe camphor I guess, but we never did have colds when we were kids...never missed a day from school...musch to my displeasure as I hated school... :)

Hello dear lilaclady. Yes, when I was a kid, my parents used to put some camphor blocks in the drawers for clothes as well to drive away cockroaches from getting in to bite the clothes. I love this smell as well. Years ago, I bought a bag of camphor blocks and placed in the drawers for my clothes and books. Strangely enough, they are still there after so many years, though getting smaller. Here in my place, we can still get them in the supermarkets. Thanks for your discussion, dear friend.

I can still remember that smell from my gramma! I don't remember her ever being sick... she had gall bladder problems, then diabetes, but not colds or even sinus problems. I think it would be hard to get away with wearing them now, though! People would keep their distance!LOL!

Usually, we put camphor pills into chests of drawers to eliminate blackbeetles, and I like the smell too.

hi lilaclady we used to put camphor blocks into our inhalation' machine and use it for bad colds and the flu as it helped to'open upyour nose and your chest and make you feel a lot better. I never had it pinned to my clothes however. i am in the US.
