What Now For The England Football Team???

Okay, so we were awful last night, those that watched the match all know that. But what now for the English Football? In fact what about British Football (not one country from UK made it to Euro 2008) Do we need to limit the number of foreign players in the Premiership? Do we need to have like the Italians 50/50 mix of national palyers & foreigners in our leagues? Do the players wages need to be 'capped'? - C'mon they are over-paid prima-donnas who care more about their clubs & what model Ferrari they are gonna be buying next week.. As a Englishman I now know how the Scots felt last week & I have to say we are all in this together now, NONE of the British national teams qualified. Before you all say it, I know the England team are a bunch of over-paid ponces, but we have massively under-performed - WHY??? Is money a issue or just poor management? What needs to be done? & what would you do if you were head of The FA?

I think what English FA is going the way of India's BCCI. Their are one of the richest football boards if not the richest, yet the grass root football in England still does not seem to produce the world beaters on a regular basis compared to the likes of Brazil, Argentina and even Portugal these days!! The other thing was that from the beginning Mclaren was a wrong choice for the top job. He could have been a good second fiddle, but for the top job they needed someone more tactically astute and inspiring like Mourinho!! I think even Shearer if he decides to make himself available for the top job could be a good choice!! Cheers! Ram

Hi Ram - I agree with every word you say.. You are right I didn't know the situation with Indian cricket was as bad as it is, but I guess you know more about that than me. I think the FA were too scared to appoint another foreign manager after Sven for fear of a backlash from the public. But we don't really care who manages England, as long as they are tactically astute & have good club level experience. Mourinho would be my number one choice then Allardyce (commited to Newcastle)then Wenger (commited to Arsenal), & then O'Neill (probably favourite right now) I hope for the sake of our national sport that we make BIG BIG changes, If that means a complete reconstruction of the Premier League & it's pay structure then so be it. We HAVE to give our grass roots a chance & limit the amount of foreign players that are taking our key positions. That is not a nationalist or racist attitude, it is common sense. Something the FA in England have struggled to grasp since Bobby Robson's reign.

I think now Mourinho, Martin O Neil, Sam Allardyce have all declined the English job. I think we might see Fabio Capello or more incredibly Harry Redknapp at the top job!! Cheers! Ram
