What is the first thing people notice when they come into your house/apartment?

My apartment is very small and in the kitchen there are 3 doors. A closet, a sort of pantry and one leading into the apartment next door. One day shortly after moving in I decided that I was going to put a collage of all the pictures I could find on one of them. I put a piece of pink poster paper up and proceeded to fill it with pictures from as old as when I was a child, when my kids were small and my grandkids. Every so often I'll add a couple of new ones when I think of it. It never fails...when someone comes in my apartment before they even sit down the first thing they do is look at the pictures and ask me about them. Of course like any mother/grandmother I enjoy telling people about my kids and grandkids and it's a great ice breaker. Is there anything specific that people are drawn to when they visit your house, apartment or even your room? Did you put it there purposely or is it something that was just there?

when I walk into my own apartment I notice that it's kinda cluttered. I have a lot of furniture in a small apartment. I should get rid of some of it but the I have no storage. I should get rid of it but I think, what about when I move out of this tiny place, then I won't have anything. I'll have a bigger apartment with no furniture to put in it! So that's what I THINK people notice, but no one ever says that. Usually people notice that I have a lot of DVD's... or they notice my lovely and beautiful television. Then it's usually something random or my cat that others notice.

lol...I've been trying to "unclutter" my apartment for months now and not doing a very good job. I'm sure people notice it but are too nice to say anything.

Yeah well the clutter is the furniture. Not stuff. I always point it out to people and they're always like whatever, it looks good. I hate people who lie and/or avoid the truth. but it's the furniture is probably fine, I just hate it.

My front door opens up into the living room, the colour scheme is predominantly white with a splash of red cushions, and in the center is a low white coffee table, with a a circular ed tray in the middle, and on top of is a goldfish bowl with 2 goldfish and a black moorifsh. My guests usually comment on the fish, coz at first it looks like its part of the decor, and then they see the fish moving around ..lol! Um we got the goldfish a lot later, actually my brother forced us to get it, and we needed a tray to put underneath the goldfish bowl, and we had re tray lying around we just put it..it happened accidentally but ..its looks very put together! :-)

I love the sound of the white with the red! I have white walls in my living room with a sort of cranberry color curtains but their not really red. I would love to see those fish too!

That sounds like an attractive idea to present your apartment to people when they enter. And individual too. When people walk in our front door, they enter a smallish entrance way, & probably the first thing they see is an aquarium. It is a 2 ft aquarium with five goldfish. They also see a large photo above the aquarium with lots of photos arranged in it of my husbands kids. People may also see two photos, one from India & one of an Australian outback scene. We also have a weather barometer in the entrance way. Leading from the entrance way are two doors, nearly always open that go into the family room & lounge room. Most likely people see the piano straight away as it is near the entrance.

That sounds cute the way you did your pictures. The fact that you used pink poster paper even makes it stand out more, thats a good idea. How did you get the pictures to stick without messing up the back of the picture? Now for you answer! haha! I live in a mobile home on two acres, its not a new one but it belonged to my Mom and i just feel so good being here, she passed away and it makes me feel close to her...I have had some beautiful homes in my past but, I ended up here, and i think god i have this little place..The one thing that people notice is my big front porch.I had a big porch put onto the front of my trailor, and i hung a porch swing and put plants out there, and people always comment on my porch.I also try to fix up my place every time i get any money ahead.People will come in and say "Oh your place is so cute, and homey, thats the comments that i get a lot..I have done a lot of repairs in the last 10 years and i always try to put things around to try and make it as comfortable as i can..

I either used scotch tape or a glue stick to put the pictures up. I love the sound of your mobil home and especially the porch swing. It sounds so homey!

Well I had someone come here for the first time last week and shortly after they left they phoned my landlord (their friend) and said that they need to paint my house. So apparently now the landlord is going to give me free paint to paint the walls. I have been here for 4 and a half years and never painted it. It was painted fresh when I moved in though. I never really thought about painting it because it isn't mine so why spend the money and I hated to ask my landlord as I only pay $145 a month including my heat. So I guess they first notice that it needs a paint job really bad.

My animals. I have a lot of cats and one or ten of them are always hanging around the door when someone comes in. The next thing you'll probably notice is a horse or two grazing about as you look out my huge picture window that overlooks the front of my house. The third thing you might notice is that my house is all tile flooring. I don't like carpet. My whole house from kitchen to dining room and both bathrooms to all 5 bedrooms are all tile.

I can't say forsure but if I were someone coming into my house (not really mine but renting rooms here) I would notice the stains on the carpet just inside the entryway... They were here when I moved in and I've tried several times to clean them but fact is the carpet is going to have to be replaced.

Our family pictures are on the wall closest to the front door but no one seems to notice until later on LOL I would have to say its our African prints we have on our walls that people ask about.

People usually notice that my apartment is neat when they first enter, ctry, although they wouldn't want to see my bedroom, LOL. I have this cute little curved loveseat that everyone comments on when they see it. And I also have a lot of photos of the great-grandkids scattered all over the living room. The entertainment center with my large tv and music system takes up most of the space in my living room.

In the house we are renting, there is a full length wall mirror just as you walk in the door. It is funny to see how many people stand in front of it and check themselves out from all angles, turning from side to side and front to back. Sometimes it is quite hilarious, because it is like a magnet, and they don't seem to know what they are doing when they step in front of it. Then, when they see that I have noticed what they are doing, we all start laughing! If I could remove it I would, but the landlord does not want us to take it down.

The first thing they notice is that it's very clean and organized!! LOL I love a clean house and can't stand a dirty cluttered home. I guess the next thing would be that I'm a Christian because of the figurines and pictures I have up in my living room. However if they come in the back way and go into the kitchen, they'll see that I love daisies and ladybugs. LOL

I would love to put some of my paintings on the wall, but I am still pretty busy or lazy? to get them there. I would be glad if they would notice just that. Right now when they come to my apartman and the first thing they notice is our anitque coffee table, what is about 150 years old and we bring it from germany. I don't really like it, but my fiancee does and it seems like many people like it too.
