I really could stay up all night ... I think!

Well, here it is 3:15 a.m., and I'm online starting this discussion. I'm finding myself doing this (night owl) thing, more and more these days. It's something I would've never done even a year ago, and am trying to figure out the reason behind it. I guess 'my age' could be a factor. There was a time when I thought it was a 'big deal' if I stayed up until 4:00 a.m. on Christmas Day/Eve, but now ... By the way, I often take a couple hours nap on the couch, and then get up, and am raring to go here. Do you do something similar, or are you the 'early to bed, early to rise' type of person? Have your sleeping patterns changed over the years? Do you do this to have some 'quiet computer time' to yourself? One of my 'friends here' thought we were in different time zones, because of the hours I keep. I assured them that our time zones are the same.

I don't have any problem falling asleep, but it's just this new pattern I've gotten into. It has a lot to do with my age. On the rare times that I actually can't sleep, I have tried 'counting sheep,' and it works sometimes. Thanks for your response, and welcome to myLot.

Years ago before I had my kids my husband and I would stay up all night. When we first decided to do this I didn't think we'd be able to do it, but we made plans to go out and have an early breakfast, then to the lake to fly his RC plane. The more we did it (staying up all night) the easier it became. Our hours of course changed and we'd go to sleep around noon. :P Now I usually stay up until 2 in the morning. Sometimes later. I would like to go to sleep earlier than this, but my body is kind of adjusted to this time frame. :P

Hi sacmom, That's very interesting about your husband and yourself. I've gotten used to this 'new pattern' for sleeping I have, of late. I believe my age to be a factor. One of these nights though, I'm going to 'try' to go to sleep by midnight, and I won't get up and go back online again. Thanks for your response.

Hello! My sleep patterns change daily! One night I could be up til 3 or 4, Ive even been known to stay up til 6 or 7 am before, and then sleep a few hours and do it again. This is usually when my hubby is overnigth working and wont be home. When hes home we head to the bedroom about 9pm and then watch some TV til we fall alseep, but sometimes I get up and get online til midnight or so. I really dont like this habit I have started. I really need to get on a sleep schedule and stay with it. I do hope to go back to work, and would like a day job. I dont want a habit to where I cant sleep at night when I have to be up for work the next morning. Thats not fun! Bay Lay Gray xx

Hi BayleighGray, My sleep patterns used to be very much on a schedule, and varied from time to time. This however, has changed greatly for me, and I find my sleep is broken into two parts these days. I 'guess' I should try to get back on a schedule myself, but it can be hard. I wish you all the best in this. Thanks for your response.

I'm a night owl too - having some quiet time when the kids go to sleep is nice. Of course I have to set a limit or I won't be able to wake up in the morning and my kids will be yelling for their coa coa puffs! I'm not a morning person.

I can relate to what you've said, about the quiet time, as I used to need this, when my daughter was little. I had to set a limit back then too, as I had to get up to care for her, and then later on, to get her off to school. I can be a morning person at times, but have become much more of a night owl. Thanks for your response, and welcome to myLot.

my sleeping pattern change from time to time. but i could not stay awake until 3 in the morning everyday like you. i would be feeling really sick the day after if i do that in two or three consecutive days. maybe i could but not as alert as you are. i take naps, too in the afternoon after school and i go to bed between 10 pm and 1 in the morning. there are times when i want to sleep as early as 8pm. so, it differs from time to time. anne

I think my staying up this late, does have something to do with 'my age,' as I've heard that this can be one of the symptoms. If I don't have 'my nap' on the couch, I'm not really alert, but since I have, I'm raring to go now. Thanks for your response.

I found myself doing this all the time a little while back because I just could not sleep, there was something about the quiet of the night, it was so peaceful just posting away but then I doctor told me I needed to get into some routine for sleeping and the lack of sleep wasn't doing me any favours...

There is something very peaceful about the night, that I enjoy too. I usually fall asleep fairly fast, once I finally get to bed. I'm sure this isn't doing me any favours either, and one of these nights, I'm going to go to bed at midnight at the latest. Thanks for your response.

I am and always have been a night owl person. I sleep maybe 4 hours each night. This I have been doing for 40 years at least and it's sufficient for me. I am on myLot most the time during the day as I run errands etc and do mylotting as well on and off. I seldom nap during the days. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, Wow, you really don't need that much sleep per night. I do need more, but my sleep is broken up, by my nap on the couch, which averages about 2 hours, and then the time actually spent asleep in bed. A few years ago, I'd never have done this, so I can either blame it on my age, or my need for my online time.:) Thanks for sharing here, as always.

It really depends on my mood and what I have to do the following day. Like sometimes when there's nothing important happening or needing my time, I do stay up to watch movies etc. English television has the habit of putting the best movies during the graveyeard shift which is mighty annoying. Most often I just go to bed. Since moving into our home I've found myself getting tired around the same time as my wife, even before sometimes. (which is differently a difference) Weekends are a nice time to stay up though, especially since it's a peaceful time. ~Joey

Hi Joey, You're likely tired out from moving, and that's understandable. I can relate to what you've mentioned about staying up and watching tv, although these days I'm usually online late at night. I'm so happy to see you back here. You've brought a smile to my face.:) Thanks.

i have a lot of pain due to my knees, so i find that i have to hit the hay around 10:30, plus i have kids to get up and get ready for school, and i also work every part time every day (9am-1pm), so even if i wanted to, it wouldnt be in my best interest to stay up late.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee pain, and I can relate, as I suffer with this too. This however, doesn't stop me from staying up this late, so I believe a big part of it is my age. My daughter's sixteen, so I no longer have to get her up, and out, as she's very independent. I do some after school child care, but this doesn't interfere with my late hours, at the moment. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no big deal really. 330am is nothing. :P I used to sleep at 5am. And I have to try to sleep that "early". It is only recently that I am trying to sleep early - before 2am. And waking up earlier. :PP

Thanks for your reassurance here! I was beginning to wonder about this, and didn't want to be the only one 'in this situation.';) I'm going to 'try' to sleep earlier too, and one of these times I'll actually attempt it by midnight, and not go online again afterwards. I appreciate your response.

Hi there fellow night owl. My hours have gotten really peculiar lately. I've always been a night owl, and only about two years ago, my hours were really weird..LOL. When a lot of things began happening in my life though last year I had to switch my hours to be just a bit more of a day person..not by much..but would go to bed no later than 4 in the morning and be up around 9 or 10 a.m....Well, all the frazzles in my life of last year have come and gone, and now I'm slowly sinking back into my weird hours again...sometimes going to bed as late as 6 or 7 in the morning..sometimes even later, then getting up around 1 p.m....Now I'm trying to get back to going to bed earlier to get up earlier..so far not working..LOL..I mean I do get a lot of things done..Like on Monday, started working on my dreamcatchers that I make as I have an order for five of them..hope to have them finished by the end of the week, then also rattled out an article and submitted it to Associated Content, then also started finalizing my photo portfolio to send to the place where I applied for a grant..and then even typed out a few pages of one of my novels...LOL...gee, am I busy? NAH....heheee. Think I'm just going to have to resolve to the idea I'm a definite night owl...I think I just operate better at night...I seem to get a lot more of my creative energy out at night. My time now here is 3:46 a.m....think I just might at least go to bed and read a bit..

Hi pyewacket, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone here! However, it looks as though your hours are even later than mine. Wow, and you've got such a busy schedule as well. I've been away from myLot all weekend, as my sister was here for a visit, so feel like staying up, and getting into it now. It was great to have her here, as always though. I guess I'll get some sleep soon, and get a fresh start in the morning, as it's getting late ... again. Thanks so much for your response.
