Getting primer off of marble

When we were preparing the wall above our marble mantle, some oil based primer splatter all over the top surface of the mantle. My mother tried to scrape it off (!!!) and ended up scratching some of the marble. I am wondering what would be safe to use to get the primer off without damaging the marble. I'm also wondering if there is a way to buff off the tiny scratches left behind from the scraping incident. Any ideas??
