Feeling down? Make a Balance list

If you get the seasonal sads, or are feeling depressed today, this is a little technique which I found really really helpful when I was going through a rough patch. On a sheet of paper, start writing down the things that make you feel down. Be as specific as you like but group them together in broad headings. So, for example, I might have a heading which is 'things that upset me about my childhood', another might be 'things that depress me about work' and so on. For every thing you put down, you also have to put down one good thing or happy thought or memory about that same period in yoru life. So, I might have written 'I was badly bullied at school' but next to it I'll write 'the teacher for that grade helped me develop a love of reading'. Its hard to do, at first you'll struggle to find any good things, but they are there believe me. Sometimes they are as small as remembering that on the day something awful happened, you saw a beautiful rainbow or sunset, but there are always good things in your memory too. By the end of the list, you hopefully have a balance between your bad things and your good things. A lot of people find this amazingly calming, and it reminds you that life is never all bad. This helped me, I hope it hleps at least one other person :)

That sounds like a very creative solution. I actually do something similar to what you described.. When I am feeling down or angry, I make a list of the people or thigns that are upsetting me. Then, instead of listing the things that make me upset about them, I list the aspects I like about those things. For example, if I am mad at my mother, I will write her name and then list all of things I like about her, and why I am grateful for her. Even if I am still mad at her by the time I am done with the list, I am able to appreciate her more and approach the situation in a more calm, mature way.

Writing things down is always good for us when we feel low. That is why I keep a journal. Well, one of the reasons anyway. I also keep a journal so future generations will know that we all have our trials. This is great advice.

Thanks for that i will try that next time i'm feeling down. By the time you've thought of all the good things to out way the bad, you've probably forgotton what you were fed up about in the first place. Thanks

I'll bet it will help more than one! I may do all this mentally, but I do it on a daily basis. I know I can't afford to 'think about it tomorrow'... depression wants to overtake all the other emotions, and I just won't let it! I hope people will see this and make a note of it... a simple thing that can do so much good!

This is what I actually do. I write down the PRO's and CON's. This does help. What I do most often than not is write poems and I usually relieve myself from doing this. I've actually composed a lot and posted some but, I won't post the rest of it because I have future plans in publishing it. (^_^) Hope this will come true! Thank you for the tip which I know can help many mylotters!

Yes,it may work for somebody, but for me ,i don't think i will bother to recollect all the good things and put them down in paper.I am lazy ,but still ,i can find my own way to keep balance for my bad mood.I can do what i like to console myself, and those things that depressed me soon puffed away!

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations.
