I hope a fellow MyLotter doesn't mind my posting this. A fellow MyLotter is going through a really upsetting time. Many of you may know OreoCookie as she may be a friend of yours. Some time ago she posted a discussion, about what she is going through with her family. In a short while she, her daughter and son-in-law are to move into the son-in-law's family home. Now Oreo's daughter, a few months ago, brought home a darling little kitten, at first named Muffin, then changed it to Sassy. Sassy and Oreo have bonded like crazy. Now the son-in-laws family are putting their foot down, saying that she can't keep Sassy...I think this sucks no end, and if I could, would like to personally fly down to Oreo's home and punch her family out..I mean what is the big friggin' deal here? She can keep her dog, Ivan, but not the cat. So now she is frantically trying to find a new home for Sassy. You can see the discussion here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1338839.aspx?p=1 She has told me that there aren't too many shelters/rescuers in her area of Georgia save the dreaded kill shelter, Animal Care & Control..and we all know what happens to pets there. Since I do have a few contacts of rescuers (I'm here in NY though), I emailed my pet rescuer friend in upstate NY...she MIGHT have some leads as usually pet rescuers are in contact with one another and can do a urgent cross posting for help in such things. Many pet rescuers DON'T list themselves to prevent people from dumping a lot of animals on them. My pet rescuer friend, Amy is one of them. Also, I posted a notice up with the various Yahoo pet rescue groups and gave them the particulars of how to contact Oreo. I also gave her a listing of all the shelters throughout Georgia via the Petfinder.com. so she could try to contact them also. So here's the deal....If any of you MyLotters are in the Georgia area, maybe you can help out?? Do any of you know of rescuers?? If you wish you can PM me...if you're not on my friend's list ask for a friend request...If Oreo is agreeable to this then I can give you her contact details too...BUT only if you're in the Georgia area. Please no oddball, weird, or bashing posts here...We're trying to find this kitten, Sassy a good new home. And please send her your prayers that things will work out for the better. And to turn this into a discussion--have you ever been in a similar situation and had to give up a beloved pet? What did you do? How did you handle it??

That really SUCKS!! I couldn't imagine having to give up one of my cats! They're my babies!! We have been thinking of moving back to my hometown and if we do we'll be moving in with my Dad until we can have him build us a house. One of the biggest concerns I had was my kitties - as he has one of his own (was my sisters). They'd have to come along or the deal would be off. Luckily he knows me LOL and says no problem even though he hates having the one he's got. I wish her luck with this and feel for her. And I applaud you for helping her out and I hope you're successful in finding the kitty a home :)

I know this whole things sucks...Since you might remember my own story about the problem my mother created and was in a "situation" myself, I had to find rescuers myself to take in a number of kitties and it was hard to do. I just hope something comes through for Oreo

I live in Fl. so I cannot give direct help but I do wish you the best of luck. I have rescued and found homes for hundreds of critters from flying squirrels to pelicans that had been shot to manatees with flippers ripped off to lost parrots to normal dogs and cats. Often it is human error that endangers an animal, so it becomes our responsibility to right the wrong.

That is so wonderful of you that you've rescued a lot of animals yourself--That's terrible..who the heck would shoot pelicans or rip off the flippers of manatees?

Hi Pye I do remember this discussion and I my heart does go out to Oreo. You know me I would help if I could. I took Blackie in thats how I got her. She didnt have a home. I really hope this can be worked out some way. Why cant she just put her foot down and say NO the cat is staying with me. Period! I hate when people are so dam nasty and cruel. I Know this bothers you alot because of it reminds you of when you guys had a lot of cats. Keep us informed Pye. In my last house I had about 3 or 4 cats that I would feed everyday. They lived in a barn in the back. But they wouldnt let me touch them.

It's not so simple as putting her foot down and saying NO. Wish it were. There a lot more complicated issues here which I know about, but really can't discuss openly..don't think she would appreciate it. But the son-in-law is the one making it very difficult for her and it's his family home..He also just can't understand why she's getting worked up over "a stupid d@#m cat" (His words)

"put her foot down and say NO" Exactly. What would the situation have been if the owner of the house said no kids, they mess up stuff too easily? Then what?

I have been praying for oreo, pye. Ever since I noticed her other discussion about Sassy. I still don't understand why she can keep the dog but not the cat. To me, dogs are more destructive than cats and I have a dog. A big dog. Since I don't fly, I'd gladly drive and meet you down there to give ya a hand with the family. I have been in a situation where I was going to lose my home but I refused to lose my kids as well. I was preparing to live in my car if I had to with my daughter and furry kids. I will not give up my animals..period!

That's a wonderful offer. Thing is, Oreo is in Georgia I'm in NY, but I couldn't take in Sassy myself..sure wish I could..I would in a minute, but I'm only allowed two kitties ..anymore and I'd be in deep shat with my landlord myself. I've posted on the Petfinder forums, all the Yahoo pet rescue groups, got in contact with my pet rescuer friend in upstate NY if she knew of anyone in the Georgia area..and on and on..Would just love to strangle Oreo's family for putting her through all this. The dog belongs to Oreo's daughter..the daughter is also the one that adopted Sassy but didn't really have much to do with the kitten..it bonded with Oreo...her son-in-law is the one putting his foot down about not taking the kitten, and now Oreo isn't even allowed to keep the kitten in their home still living in now at all, but has to keep it outdoors--what shats, no?

Dang it pye! I just had such a rescue come to my email about two weeks or more ago but I couldn't be a part of because it wasn't near my area and would've been ever so happy to give it to you but I already deleted it. I'm in NC and would be so happy to take her in in a heartbeat but don't think she's be able to drive even to Greensboro where I could meet up with her.... or can she? Let me know because she looks something like my beloved Kisses! You can't see it in this picture that I'm about to show you because it was mostly on her back. This kitty is one pretty one and I would love to have her! http://www.in-memory-of-pets.com/personaltribute.php?ID=30637

Okay I sent you a private email, PM'd you here but will repeat anyway here You said you'd be willing to take in Sassy if possible. Oreo says there's no way she can get to you, but she just told me that if YOU know someone that can come down to pick Sassy up she'd be willing to pay full expenses of the gas money involved--she says it would have to be done soon though, by around the 3rd of December! Let me know! Saw the email you sent but not quite sure what I'm looking at...LOL

I love animals and i'm happy to say i've never been in that situation. My parents know that if i love an animal enough they'll let me keep it. I will keep your friend in my prayers, i'm new so i don't know who it is but i'll pray the situation improves.

Carlye and Snowman - My friend gave me a stuffed snowman for Christmas last year. Carlye thinks it a great toy.
Ah, What a cute little kitty. Wish I could help! But sadly I am way out here in California. What mean people. Keep the dog but not the kitty. That is too sad. I hope it all works out. Keep us posted. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Blessed Be. I have never had to give up my pets. I don't think I could give my Ashley and Carlye. It would just break my heart.

That is so sad. I will be praying that she finds a good home for Sassy, and that she can be at peace. I don't know why people have to be so cruel and do things that hurt others. I've never been in that situation, but I know it would be very hard to have to give up a kitty.

oreocookie is one of my friends and I'm feeling so bad about this right now. I've lost more than one pet for different reasons and I know what she's going through right now. I'm in Boston and would join you in GA to kick some butt! I feel bad that there is nothing I can do but I think you have done a good thing and hopefully something good will come of it. Please let her know I am thinking of her and she's in my prayers....

I am so sorry to hear about the events surrounding Sassy and I wish we lived closer...we have five cats and in a circumstance like this we would probably take her in. Once again your care, concern and compassion for all things comes through again Pyewacket and I admire your commitment to the animal world. Do keep us up-dated and I'll send good thoughts and positive, harmonious energy their way and hope that Sassy's story has a happy ending. Good work...and good luck with it. Raia

I'm sorry to hear that has happened. She and Sassy will be in my prayers. Has she spoken to her veterinarian? They may have some no-kill shelters in mind. I know the veterinarian I used to work for had a list of no-kill shelters, just in case a client had an awful situation like this happen... Best Wishes, Sarah

That is a really hard thing for this child to have to give up her cat. We had a similar situation but it worked out really good for us. My daughter got a kitten when she moved in with us. She is an adult of 24 years and moved from one city to another to take over my business. She lived with us for about 4 months till she got the hang of the business and till we sold our house, because we were moving away as well. In that time she got a kitten given to her. Then she moved into her own apartment and was allowed to keep her kitten. About 4 months later she moved again and was not allowed any pets. At first she didn't know what to do about it. She loved her kitty. I suggested she talk to the woman who gave the kitten to her and see if she would take her back. She did. She lives on a acreage and has many cats so she didn't have a problem with it as long as she got her fixed. Now the reason I think my daughter is lucky is because she cleans this womans house every second week and gets to visit her kitty. Also if she is feeling bad and wants to see her kitty the woman doesn't mind that she comes over and spends time with her. My prayers are with this mylotter and I hope she gets as lucky as my daughter and can find a solution to this problem that will work out for everyone involved.

Sassy is beautiful, I hope you find a good home real soon. I have kitties that I have adopted, they were strays and I just couldn't let them starve. I am trying to find homes for them too. I think I found a home for the little boy, I will miss him. I wake up every morning with him curled up sleeping with me, he is such a sweety.

One thing is I have 3 girl kitties, also I think 1 of the girls is pregnant. The person who wants the little boy is a friend of mine and I know who will be getting the kitten. I can't keep all the kitties, I bond with then as soon as they are born. I have a heated water bed and all the cats like sleeping with me.

Bless you, Pye, and thanks for starting this discussion for Oreo! The three of us are all true animal lovers so I knew I wasn't alone when I told Oreo I was crying as I read her discussion on this subject. I wasn't just saying it when I said I'd take Sassy in a heartbeat if there was any way for me to go get her! I don't know what I'd do if I were ever in this kind of situation, my kitties are my babies, you know? I've been praying like crazy since I first knew of this awful problem for Oreo and I'm not about to stop. Please, all the rest of you reading this, join in! Annie

That really stinks that she can't keep her kitten. I would take her if I could. When I was 18 years old, my mom sold our home and we each moved into our own appartment. She had to sell our home at that time because of an agreement in her divorce years before. At the time I had a dog and a cat that I had to give away. I cried for weeks. I still think about them. I know it's hard.

Hi pyewacket! Sorry to hear about that. And i do hope and pray that a shelter or a new home will be found for Sassy. As with regards to the discussioon per se. I never had been in the same kind of situation before nor have to givbe up my pets for any other reasons. However, it that ever happened to me or a similar situation like that happens, i think i will ask for reasons why i have to give up my beloved pet and if it is justifiable and reasonable, then i will find a new home for my pet. And to be honest with you, if you don't have your own home, sometimes you are at their mercy and you just follow the rules. I hope things will work out for Oreo and Sassy. They both will be in my prayers. Take care and have a nice day. :)

I'm going through something like this now... i have a kitty I'm having to find a home for as well. I love this kitty so much but I can't keep him. He is going through that biting stage and he is biting every one and he keeps getting in trouble by breaking things around the house and I'm not always around to watch out for him. I have to figure out something to do. He bit through a wire the other night and got hurt so my dad got really mad. We were out of town so we couldn't be there to watch him so he almost got himself really hurt.... I don't want to call a selter either... I'm at a loss as to what to do as well...
