Rascal Flats just recorded this song and it became a big hit. Does anyone know who originally recorded this song and when? I know several bands are doing cover songs from others and that is just fine, I just like to know who originally recorded the song and when. Happy posting..

I love doing research. This was easy to find. Tom Cochran was the original 'Life is A Highway' man. He was a one hit wonder. I can't find when it was first released, but here is a link to his lyrics. http://www.lyricsondemand.com/onehitwonders/lifeisahighwaylyrics.html

More research needed here! lol! Tom Cochrane and Red Rider had other hits besides Life is a Highway! One more would be, "White Hot"! Take care Newzealtralian.

Newzealtralian, Thanks for the link to Tom Cochrane. I will check it out more, and listen to their music. It was released in 1991, I think.

Well, that just goes to show I'm still learning how to do searches! lol. Thanks, I was sure myself that he had done more, but being pressed for time, didn't search further! Even my hubby didn't know who i was talking about! And that was his music era!

A canadian band called Tom Cochrane and Red Rider did the song originally! I don't know when it came out, but it has been more than a few years for sure! Take care Crazy_ol_lady.

Yes, I didn't lose my mind! It was Tom Cochran. Best version out I think.

I'm really not sure. The first version I ever heard of it was from Tom Cochran, or was it Joe Cocker? I forget. I like his version best, but Rascal Flatts does a great job as well. I heard they did it for the movie Cars. Did they also include it on their new album?

Hi Pam, Tom's version is the best in my opinion, but Rascal Flatts did a good job too. The song was used in the movie Cars and they did include it in their new album. Don't you just hate it when you know the answer to a question and just can't remember it? I know it really bugs me! That's why I finally asked the question here. Thanks for the help.
