Do you have health insurance? If not, is it by choice or because you truly cannot afford it?

Do you really believe there is someone who cannot afford health insurance?

Small business is responsible for 80% of America's jobs. Many cannot pay insurance for employees and the employees do not earn enough to pay for it themselves. And how about the part-time employees of the largest retailer(s) who have no benefits. There are also retirees that still work just for the insurance. I believe the number is larger than many realize.

I like your train of thought, but I believe that the priorities of most cause them to choose more frivolous expenditures rather than insure themselves, especially the young adults.

I expect there are, but they are few and far between in this country

Yes, I do have one since it is required to have one where I'm living currently. It is mandated by law that one should be insured for at least hospital and out-patient medical treatment. Reference: http://www.howtogermany.com/pages/insurance.html

So does the State provide it for everyone, or just require you to provide your own? The latter is how car insurance is here in Texas.

i had health insurance all of my life through my mom's job, but now that i'm nineteen i am no longer able to receive it. i'm having trouble finding a job too.. so i'm currently without health insurance [i forget whether it ran out this month or will run out next month]. but i won't be able to get health insurance because my boyfriend and i simply cannot afford it. he's got health insurance though through the state because he's eligible. hopefully i'll get a job soon that offers health insurance.

It is one of the decisions young people have to make as they become responsible for their own welfare. I hope you get the job and the insurance soon.
