I have been overweight most of my 62 years but since I retired it is very hard for me to keep the weight down and I have tried diets and exercis in the past..but always gave up and gained more then i lost..so i was advised by my doctor to try the lap banding..and I will try..as this seems to be a good way to loge the huge hunger that knaws at me...especially in the P.M....and times of stress... my friends advised for me not to do this ..also my wife is not keen on this idea but they have no idea how i suffer from my health concerns (blood pressure-sleep apena-joint pains..etc etc) so i think i should be able to do this so I can get to the healthful wieght that has been depressing, embarrassing, and limiting my social life as i am ashamed to be show such lack of willpower over food and lack the motivation for exercise..but i do swim but most exercise programs aggravtes my joints...is there something i am overlooking besides lap ban? any word would be welcome..even a negative comment if I could learn something..thans..I am 6 foot and 300 pounds...

My heart goes out to you. I am 24, 5'1" and 232. I am starting to feel the effects of being so heavy. I am working hard with cutting back on my food and exercise, but it isn't easy. Especailly when you feel hungry, and exercise is hard to get into. I have looked into a number of different weight loss surgeries for papers I wrote in a Health course I took a few years back. Some are very scary and have had some huge and life ruining effects. Most go smooth and nothing happens, but when it does go wrong it is a horrible thing. Recently I looked into lap band for a study I was doing. It is by far the safest. There are cases of it going wrong, but it is easily removed or adjusted. Since this doesn't have to be a permanent thing, it is very safe. It also helps people out a lot. If you are feeling that something needs to be done and that you can't fix it on your own, this is probably the best way to go. Good luck to you!

do not use lap ban because it is really unhealthy to do that. the best thing to do is a diet. yes i know you said you have done diets but you were probably doing the wrong kind of diet. for example one day you should eat all fruits and vegetable and go swimming for a couple of hours. swimming and jump roping is one of the most active things you can do and you are guaaranteed to loose a lot of weight if you do it everyday. doing this is way cheaper and wont cost you your life but only a couple of months to loose it all. just stay positive and burn it all off.
