How many plusses equat a negative???

OK, we can all rate each other's discussions here and that is a factor (I guess) in our star number/color. So, if someone gives you a minus on a discussion, and that drops your number, how many plusses do you need to get to move your number back up??? I have a few friends who have lower numbers and I've been plussing their discussions. But it seems like IF their number goes up, it takes FOREVER! So I'm just wondering, how many times do you have to get a plus rating once your number has gone down? And how many minu ratings do you get before you number does go down? Now, I realize that someone can be following behind me giving my friends minuses for all the plusses I'm giving them, but that would have to be a pretty vindictive person, don't ya think?

I think some of it has to do with the overall number of points they have, because if you have more points it takes more to move your percentage. The color and number represent an actual percentage. So, a person with 1000 points needs ten plusses to move up, where one with 100 points has an actual one to one-- each plus is one, each minus is one. If you are 93% at 100 one plus more could put you at 94. I do not think I am explaining very well, but it is helping me understand personally why I have not moved back up very fast since I went down to a red star. I have too many to counteract. I think anyone who would follow you around giving minuses would have entirely too much time on their hands. I give my friends+ for their discussions, and for their responses, and comments, and pictures. If I am given a chance, I give a rating. I almost never give a - and seldom report anyone anymore. I just do not see violations like I used to.

OK, now I have more questions.... And I have seen this before and just ignored it. What is the rating??? And what do you mean by points? Are you saying that that more posts you have, the harder it is to move your star/number up? And does that also mean that it's harder to move it down? I just seems that it only takes one or two minuses to get bumped down, but a zillion to get it back up. Well, I guess I have too much time on my hands because for about a week straight I went and plussed 2 peoples discussions and responses and they didn't budge at all - well, one budged a bit, but I don't think it directly correlated to the amount of plussing I was doing...

I probably explained my random mathematical thought poorly. Rating is that + - ! thing. It is present on all discussions, pictures, responses, and comments, I think. And for instance, if we chat back and forth, and I post to this discussion 3 times, there will be three opportunities for you, and anyone else who reads it, to mark me + or -. While I was responding last night, I realized that since I have over 8000 points, or posts, the value of them is very much diluted. That is why it has taken me FOREVER to move back up from 91% to 93% and I think it takes 94% or 95% to get my blue star back. Do you know how to view your percentages, and your friend's percentages, to see what the numbers are that go to your star? It varies with the type of browser you have. I hope I am not making this more confusing.

COOL!!! You're helping out a lot, and if you don't mind, I'll keep picking your brain a bit. How do I check my and my friends percentages? I didn't know anything about that. I guess if I read around a bit on the site I could get it... But it's easier to just ask - and I'll get to plus ya up a bit too!!! Oh, do the minuses work the same way? Like you need so many to get bumped down or does it just take one? Thanks for your patience with me :)

I don't know what the ratio is on this. But I have been fortunate to stay at a blue 10 star since I got it. Though there have been many people who have dropped their star rating for no reason at all besides someone being vindictive and rating them negatively.

I know there have been some instances of people being vindictive, and that's pretty lousy. It would take a lot of work though for someone to go down in rating. I mean, I went around putting plusses on someones discussions for over a week - old discussions, new discussions, all the responses, you name it! - and their rating didn't even budge. But if someone's going around minusing them as I'm plussing them that would pretty much wipe out my efforts.
