Are you Fooled by the new Sanitized Santa?

Just this minute I've seen my first TV commercial where Santa said "Heh, heh, heh" instead of "Ho, Ho, Ho" and it stunk to high heaven, in my opinion. They are trying to be "politically correct" and in today's crassly commercial world of elf eat elf I cannot really blame them for trying to please everyone and walk on eggshells. However, if they have to screw up a centuries old tradition why not say "Ha Ha Ha?" With all this skinny Santa and generic holiday stuff, Christmas is starting to sound like a bad joke anyway. MyLottians seem to have a lot of common sense among them, and I've seen many of them say they will continue to think of Santa in the traditional way, but should things come to the point where a jolly Santa has negative connotations for so many people that he is legislated out of existence, what would you personally like to see take his place? And what would he say? Let's get creative here! Only, let's try not to offend too many people, lol.

Hello Drannhh, Geeze, it's 7:50 on a Friday night, and you want me to put my thinking cap on? OK, here goes ... To those of you who defile the memory of St. Nick: - Remember that the joy of genuine magic lies in the hearts of our children, who believe in Santa; the embodiment of all that is good and kind to children and adults alike. - The majesty of Christmas lies with tradition. A jolly maker of toys fuels that majesty. If he exclaimed "He, he, he", he would not only be acused of sexism, he would be perceived as a joker. Then folks would be afraid to open wrapped gifts, for fear that something untoward lies within. - Nappy headed, female basketball players didn't exist when St. Nicholas was giving of himself to bring joy to children in Europe. - "Ho, ho, ho" is indicative of a laugh, not a phrase. Some folks cackle when they laugh, some have much heartier, deeper laughs. Hence, banning certain types of laughter equate to discrimination! Instead of going on and on, I will summarize with this: You mess with Santa, and you mess with Peace, Love, Harmony, and Joy. Do you really want that on your conscience????????????????????

While I don't at all mind having the disposition of your thinking cap on my conscience, I sure as heck wouldn't want all that other stuff on it. I'm tempted to throw in the towel and award you Best Response already, but that might discourage others from trying to top this one. It is hard to fathom anyone succeeding, but I want them to try. I really do. Maybe Santa himself will come and join myLot in my downline just for the opportunity to say "Tee hee hee!"

I grew up on a farm, so I would have to say "Hay, Hay, Hay!" Thank you for being the first to comment.

People and their politically correctness concern me. I propose a new system for people to use instead of it! How about everyone just state things as is, for what they are, the truth, no sugar coating it, watering it down, changing it to suit yourself or your company's purposes...to stop giving a damn who you offend, and start caring who you can help. What is TEH USE, of promoting health by having a skinny Santa, and teaching children not to insult women..if you don't teach them to care about other people? Santa's not obese anyway...he's just plump. He gets around fine, right? Don't be telling him to start drinking slim fast instead of milk V_V slim fast is more fattening than milk anyway, or else it wouldn't be so tasty. Besides. Santa PAWNS slang any day. He existed before it did. He's laughing. Not insulting women. Duh. Some people just need to get over themselves, I think. I've never cared what people think, and I'll continue not doing it. I will always love my round, "hohoho" laughing Santa! And I'm a girl, so people should shut up about his laugh SOMEHOW being offensive! Okay...I'm done ranting lol.

Ezactlee. It's not broken, so they shouldn't be trying to fix it..if they really wanna put their brains to work they should be tackling things that really do need fixing. Everyone knows there's plenty of that in the world..so they should have at it.

I love your rant and hope to get many more similar ones right here! Plain talking works for me. Instead of finding fault with stuff that isn't broken, I say fix what is! BRAVO! Excellent response. Thanks for pulling on my side of the rope.

It is morning here, too, but that is only because I do not have enough sense to go to bed! The thought of you going "ho ho ho" with your nice fat Samta eating your cookies and a chilled glass of your hubby's milk makes me so happy that I am going "ho ho ho" too! Have a great day!

I have never been a fan of Santa Claus to begin with. Although I have left him cookies before and tried to stay up late enough to catch him eating them, still, that didn't last long. I don't like his rosy cheeks, I don't like the twinkle in his eyes, nor do I care for his stupid outfit. I have had to stop watching tv, reading the newspaper, or listening to the radio because the commercialism so intensely annoy me. I am soooo not into 'politically correct'. In my mind it's just a 'polite' way of saying 'a$$ kisser'. Whoever gets voted in though, I think he should be small enough to fit down a friggin' chimney! Yeah, fire Santa and hire one of the elves! Their little green and brown costumes are darling, a bunch of them together could man the sleigh, and they could all fit down the chimney. And rather than the guffawing like some kind of idiot, they would all giggle mischievously.

The little elves would make wonderful poster promoters of holiday spirit. Down with Santa and UP with the ELVES! Mrs. Claus would probably like to stop packing all those annual lunches, too! What an idea.

Oh, and something else in the elves favor: they are very experienced, since they have been the ones MAKING ALL THE PRESENTS TO BEGIN WITH! Why should Santa get all the credit for their hard work?!? Thanks for the BR!!

well, i still prefer the traditional Santa that yells a "ho ho ho" regardless of where he is and who is listening. that's the way Santa used to get the kids attention so why the heck change it??? Santa has been like that for like forever and he has become an icon and also his laugh is already an icon and a trademark so why the heck change it??? if i say to a kid "ho ho ho", he will immediately say that its Santa. if i say "ha ha ha", someone would probably ask me "what's funny?". that's just ridiculous. i say, let Santa be himself and to those too sensitive and self-conscious, back off. ^__^

It's way past Christmas and after all I read I have nothing to add except that I enjoyed this discussion tremendously. Political correctness is a way to get everyone involved in the small stuff while they get away with not taking care of the big stuff.

What is politically incorrect with Santa's Ho Ho Ho?... i can't imagine him laughing with ha ha ha or he he he...i really do not the story behind this but if they are to change this tradition... then they have to like change almost all christmas traditions that we grew up knowing... i think there are more important things to discuss and enact than Santa's laugh... What's next?... his red suit... or Rudolph's red nose...

You are right! The school children who are prohibited from wearing a red shirt to school because red is now owned by the gangs and are recognized by the school officials as "gang colors" had better not be putting up pictures of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Nopers. That will not work, will it. Here is one of the articles, for those who missed out: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071115/wl_asia_afp/lifestyleaustraliachristmasoffbeat

Well, down in Aussie they are making him say Ha Ha Ha so as not to teach kids about the slang word ho to insult women and they are making him slim and trim so as not to promote obesity in kids. If kids know what ho means, their parents should be clapped silly and I'd be willing to bet that no kid ever said "I want to be fat like santa" and use that as a reason to gain so much weight. Again, the parents are not parenting and not just letting, but assisting the kids to eat unhealthy and get obese. Just another way for parents to be lazy in the peranting department and have an excuse for not taking responsibility.

My goodness, I hope we don't all get politically incorrect dreams from this! You are so right. If parents teach children values and others set good examples in the way they live their lives, it is hard to fathom how a mythical character can be a bad influence. On the other hand, it is much easier to point to an icon and say it has clay feet that to walk the straight and narrow in one's own shoes.

Whats going to be next - let's see - ban Jack IN The Box so kids don't shave their heads. We can ban the Hamburgler so we don't teach kids to steal hamburgers. And for heaven sake, lets put that Pillsbury dough boy on a diet and not let him promote baked goods and biscuits as he is encouraging kids to eat unhealthy and get fat. These people are sure letting us all down in picking a figure that is only present or even thought about for a few weeks a year! They should be banning witches at Halloween so as not to encourage our girls to be ugly and ban kisses on valentines day so as not to encourage playful s_x among the kids...... You may now pass me the barf bag!!!! Care to share? Oh, can't do that! It will encourage our kids to think it is okay to share each other's barf! I'm going to bed now.....
