Today,I with my friends go to Washington. It takes us five hours from SFO to Wahsington. Before this,we took the chinese airplane and Korean airplane, they all gave us free food which are all dilicious. We thought American air is same.So we all don't take food with us.Before taking on,we surprised to know that the airplane dont provide free food.We had to buy some food, such as bread, hamburge, hotdog, etc.I think every airplane outght to give us free food. They ought to study for chinese airplane.

The airlines used to provide small snacks for short flights but don't anymore to save money. They figure by cutting that out they can help keep prices low. Perhaps the food would be a selling point for future airline business?

All the planes i've been on in the past have always served food aslong as the duration of the plane journey was longer than 1 hour. You only had the one choice of food and if you didn't like it you still had to pay for it. The price of the food has always been included in the travel price when i went on the plane. When i went to america on a plane the food and drinks were all included in the travel price, but on all other plane journeys i went on had the main meal included in the travel price but i had to pay for drinks and snacks throughout the plane journey. I've never heard of there being free food on a plane journey, but i haven't been to china or any countries near there. ~ Joeys wife

They also want to give you free food. But they must consider the cost of the transport. Not all of the transport in chinese give the free food except you take a long way transport. The chinese transport cost is so low.So they can afford the free food.If they can not get high income, they also do not give you free food.

I know, this is stupid. They should give free food, your paying enough with the price of the airline ticket. They should bring this service back, though they just want to get more money out of people and are achieving it since a lot of people buy the food, so I doubt they will. Then again they do provide free food to those in first class, which is better then the food they sell to the 2nd class (or whatever their called). First class gets nice plates with real silverware, not plastic and their at your hand and will (I know because I got the chance to travel first class once last summer). So if you want free food, you have to go with first class.

If you have chosen the budget airline tickets, then they do not provide so many facilities which normally extended to economy class or executive class normal fare tickets. In India, people who travel for one or 2 hours by the budget air tickets, if they get drinking water, they are lucky. Whereas those who pay normal fare (all passengers in aircraft would have paid normal fare), they get snacks, lunch even if the travel is just 30 to 45 minutes.

I say America don't provide free food because they want to make really big profits.

I used to work for the airlines. A lot of airlines are cutting out food service depending on how long the flight is because of the cost. A meal might add an extra $100 or more to your ticket. With the rising costs of fuel they are trying to find any way to cut costs without raising the price of your fare. Think about it. They have to pay someone to cook the food, package the food, store the food, transport the food and load the food onto the airplane. That hundreds of dollars of additional labor costs. So would you rather pay an additional $100 for your ticket or eat lousy airplane food (I actually like it but some people say it's lousy) or get a cheaper ticket price? Bring your own food and save some money on your airfare.

On the flights I've taken recently, the food given to people in Coach (the non-First-Class section) varied from flight to flight. Some flights only offered a bag of either peanuts or pretzels and a soft drink. Others offered a choice of ham or turkey on a roll with a small bag of M&M candies. I was upgraded to First Class once when one of my flights was canceled at the last minute. If I could afford that, I'd do that all the time. One airline I'd like to try next time is Midwest Airlines. Every passenger is in the same section (no First or Coach class,) the seats are wider than normal Coach seats, and they offer fresh-baked cookies and 3 or 4 different meal options on some flights. The meals cost between $5.50 and $10, but I'd gladly pay that to get the higher level of service.

Hi,there! Well,I don't know that American airlines don't provide free food. Because I heard many times that they usually offer better food. I guess it's the reason of the tickets.Because there are some special tickets which are much cheaper and I learnt that they don't offer free food and one needs to buy if they need some food. I don't think that sounds too nice:( Hopefully they'll do better in the future:) Thanks for the discussion and have a nice day^_^
