Apart from Play Dough what else can you make with it. I have never seen a recepi with that. It is a powder and its says baking but what function does it have. I have a friend in Croatia that has a small boy who uses a lot of play dough and I gave her the recepi to make the home made one only problem is we dont know what that is in croatian. If someone can help us that would be great. Any explanation would be helpful.

Cream of tarter is used when making a meraige for pies...When you make a pie that calls for a egg white meraige you use cream of tarter in the egg whites to make the egg white stand up and hold their shape, it is the m put into the oven and browned and it stands up stiff, actually it stiffens egg white so they will look pretty and not fall.My mother use to make them pies all the time and she told me it makes the egg whites stiff..

I do egg whites often, but never heard of using cream of tartar with them. Do you have a measure amount you use? I'd like to try it next time. I use the powder meringue stuff and that works well (instead of actual egg whites) but have never seen a recipe that called for the cream of tartar.

The only recipes I've ever seen cream of tartar in are angel food cake and meringes. I think it helps whipped up egg white retain their lightness and shape.

My mom used to have a container of it when I was a kid but I've never bought any myself. I know she used to make lemon meringue pie so she probably used it for that. Also, baking powder is made from a mixture of baking soda and cream of tartar so I think she used it for that in baked goods. I've read that lemon juice or vinegar can be used as a substitute.

Yes I just read that it is also found in the baking powder. I could see to a point why they would use lemon juice or vinigar it makes sence with fermentation and all.

Hi again !!Here is recipe for Croatian plastelin made at home!
