Do You Have To Christmas Shop On A Budget This Year????

Well I know we certainly do. What with the rising costs of everything, even in the face of the Canadian Dollar being so high, and the un ending costs of buying your own house, we are finding ourselves on a rather tight budget this Christmas. I am making alot of my Christmas gifts for people and doing some gift baking to try to off-set some of the cost. We will also be shopping for each other on a very limited budget, probably something like $30-$60 each to spend on each other, depending on how finances are looking at my husband's next pay. If we get some money or gift cards of anything for Christmas from relatives then we will go out and get some of the things we can't buy now when they are on sale for Boxing Day. So who else here is doing Christmas on a budget this year?

We sure do!! It is going to be a very budgeted. My husband came home a few weeks ago and told me that he heard they might get off for Christmas, and they may close the doors. I hope not, but they are not going to tell anyone for sure until then. We bought for the kids, but we are buying very little else for the rest of the family members.

That is what I mean, he came home today and all the big shots from the other plants that they own will be coming in tomorrow. He is quite worried. They don't usually bring that many big shots through the plant.

YOu mean your husband might lose his job? That terrible. I can't believe the horrible things that evil companies will do to people at the holidays.

Yes we do. My husband had surgery in September and he was out of work for 6 weeks. We are still trying to catch up. This year we are just happy that we have each other and a roof over our head. As long as our son has a nice Christmas nothing else matters.

Well I am just glad to hear that you are both happy and healthy and you are right, that is what really matters.

I have to keep to a very tight budget and I bought some of this year's presents during the January sales at the beginning of the year and put them away for now. I also buy things on eBay where I can get gifts more cheaply and I have baked a lot of cakes for family and friends too.

Yes, we are doing Christmas on a very tight budget this year. We are having problems paying our bills let alone buy gifts. We are buying for the kids only this year. I am baking gifts for friends and co-workers.

Sounds like its tight for alot of people thier year. I don't think my husband will even bother taking cards into his co-workers unless I make him.

Well this year we're not able to get Christmas due to finacial difficulties. It'll be our first year of not giving and it's really hard but we have no choice. However when we do give, we give Christmas ornaments to each other from Hallmark or some other nice place. We give one to each couple and one to every single family member. I can't wait for things to get better again.

Oh that sucks. You could always make homemade ornaments, at least then you woul still get to give something.

I'll be shopping on a budget, as usual, this year. I really don't like to be limited either, but it seems to happen to me every year. I will have just under $400 to shop for 12 people. That doesn't make for very great gifts, and I hate having to be cheap, but it's out of my hands this year. I don't even know if I will be able to get my husband a gift or not, which really bums me out. I didn't think I would be in this position because last month I was making decent money, but I was informed that there was a cap bein placed on the number of hours I could work in a month, I'm still holding out hope that it gets lifted soon.

Wow that sucks. I feel bad for you. Nothaveing as much money as you would like is always horrible but it's worse when you thought you were going to have enough and you find out later that you won't. I think it sounds like you work for jerks.

I plan to shop on budget for this Christmas season. Infact, that is what I do always. Since only my hiusband is working, we avoid spending too much. Just what is necessary and we plan ahead. For some tips to shop without overspending: http://www.helium.com/tm/732759/everyone-tempted-things-arrival

Yes, a very tight one. And if we're not careful, we may not have a christmas with presents at all. It's hard because I'm the only one who has money (or will have) to spend toward presents...so, I' m trying to figure out how to divide the money so that everyone can shop. I get the feeling the presents will be at minimum amount this year but..ah well, beggers can't be choosers, right?

We're definately doing christmas on a budget this year- we just bought our first house, we moved in December 1st. With all the costs that involves (mortgage, higher utilities, maintenance costs etc.), I'm trying to do as many homemade gifts as I can. I love baking, so will do cookie platters and muffins for work gift exchanges, and I'm knitting some toques and mitts for some girlfriends and family. Also always looking for more crafty ideas, last year I made my parents stained glass ornaments, they love stuff like that more than expensive store bought stuff!

yes definitely. i just had a party for my son's 1st birthday in mid-november and til now there are still lots of payables for the expences incurred. im thinking about just giving gifts for the important people in my life like really close friends and my family. i dont have much to spend for gifts so i would try really give some personally made gifts and be choosy with the items im going to give out.

I'm having to do Christmas on a budget this year due to my lossing my job and my mother's hours being cut in half at her job also. Since it's always been just us too, we normally spend about $300 each on on another and then maybe another $200 for friends and extended family all together. This year it's more like $50 each on one another and Christmas cards for friends and family. The only other person I'll be buying anything for is my Godson and my cat. I was thinking however of baking some gourmet type cookies and giving those out as gifts. I did that one year, like 8 years ago and I still get asked to make them again to this day. The other thing I'm doing to save is buying what I will be getting this season online through My Power Mall so that I can save and then earn off it it.

Yup...with the rising costs of everything (except our wages), I think I'm shopping on budget as well... But I think it should not be too much of a problem as a gift is a gift is a gift....and its just a thought of appreciation....
