Americans What do you think of Stars Endorsing Politicians?

I have seen recent coverage of Oprah Winfrey throwing her star power behind Barrack Obama and really boosting attendance of the functions going on this weekend. Reportedly the venue for one of the events had to be moved from a location that would accommodate 16,000 people to one that could handle 80,000! The candidate on his own wasn't selling out, but when Oprah's name was thrown into the fray, his attendance more than quadrupled. Do you think that Hollywood stars should be allowed to support political candidates to such a degree? I know that celebrities like Oprah are very influential and can hold a great deal of sway over people's opinions. Should this be something that is allowed in the political arena?

Well, I know it doesn't really seem fair, but then again they are Americans too, so you really can't do anything about it. Just like big corporations and other politicians.

Yes, that may well be, but big corporations aren't legally allowed to endorse presidential candidates in this country. That's what I mean, is it fair to allow celebs to put their popularity behind a candidate? Supporting a candidate is one thing, but using their celebrity to lure people to a political rally and then not show up, that's another matter entirely!
