Why? Cruel and Unnecessary Experiments

Got a sweet tooth? Think twice before picking up a Mars candy bar! You should know that candymaker Mars, Inc.—creator of M&M's, Snickers, Twix, Dove, Three Musketeers, Starburst, Skittles, and other candies—funds deadly animal tests, even though there are more reliable human studies and not one of the tests is required by law. Mars is currently funding a deadly experiment on rats to determine the effects of chocolate ingredients on their blood vessels. Experimenters force-feed the rats by shoving plastic tubes down their throats and then cut open the rats' legs to expose an artery, which is clamped shut to block blood flow. After the experiment, the animals are killed. Mars has also funded cruel experiments in which mice were fed a candy ingredient and forced to swim in a pool of a water mixed with white paint. The mice had to find a hidden platform to avoid drowning, only to be killed and dissected later on. In yet another experiment supported by Mars, rats were fed cocoa and anesthetized with carbon dioxide so that their blood could be collected by injecting a needle directly into their hearts, which can lead to internal bleeding and other deadly complications. If these experiments are unnecessary then why would such a huge company be so cruel and go the expense these tests must incur? What dangers have occurred threat would necessitate such cruelty? Can anyone give me an answer? http://www.marscandykills.com/

That is the whole point, Lakota, these test are not necessary as it says in the acticle. I dont how how swimming in paint can help anything to do with food!

nope I do see paint to have anything to do with food. But as mice and rats carry many desices I think that testing them should come up with a product to get rid of the diseses

Oh this is disgusting, I wish these companies would be put out of business, the human race can be so cruel with no compassion what so ever, the only thing they see is money, why can't they put themselves in the animals place, why can't they see the pain and think "I wouldn't want that done to me", why are people so uncaring, I just don't understand.

This is disgusting. I thought, wrongly obviously, that far more companies were advanced enough to not have tp use these animal testing techniques now. Some of these tests seem so unnecessary. What is the point of making them swim in a pool of paint? Of what possible benefit could that be? I really wish info like this was more widely publicised. At least you are doing that now.

hi,whiteheather it is unbelievable.I have no idea what to say. I think the experiments like what you said in your discussion should be banned forever.but we can do nothing. people like hunting, killing animals, killing each other. so I said that everyone has his/her dark side. like the song "blowing in the wind" how many times must the cannon balls fly?before they are forever banned. the answer is no. today the cannon balls still fly in some places in this world.
