according to the DSM-IV-TR phobia is a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity or situation that rsults in a compelling desire to avoid it. it may be mild, moderate or severe. i personally have a phobia which stemmed from my early teen experience in school. while we were planting flowers and other shrubs, one of my classmates unearthed an earthworm and threw it at me. i never had anything against earthworms and the like but that experience led to the development of a moderate aversion to earthworms and other similar slimy creatures. even now, my skin is creeping with disgust and fear.. i become paranoid whenever i see an earthworm near me. anyways do you have a phobia?. could you tell me when and where that phobia started?.

I am literally terrified when I use toilets and bathrooms where the pipes can be seen. I cannot recall how it started. All I am aware of is that I have had this phobia since I was a child.

I have a couple of phobias! Interestingly, I can't figure out when or why I developed them! In my younger days I was not afraid of heights. One day hubby and I were driving up a road that is on a mountain. I had been on this road hundreds of times in my life. I began to have a panic attack and had to get out of the car. I do that now if I am on any road that is very high and also if I am in a high place. Now my second phobia I have always had...spiders! I can't stand them! I break out in a cold sweat when I see one.

I have a couple of phobias. The phobia which has affected my life the most is my social phobia. I have had it all my life, and it makes certain situations very complicated for instanse being in a large group or a classroom. I have received treament for my social phobia (cognitive therapy) but it didn't help me very much so I am still struggling with that phobia and I usually avoid large crowds or classrooms. I also have a phobia for spiders and a few other animals, and a phobia for fire (I am always extremely careful with candles, electricity etc)

I have a phobia for very high pitched sound resulting from scratching something, my ear really can stand it and even if I don't hear the sound but see the moving image of people using something to scratch against something to produce that high pitch sound, I would also feel uncomfortable. I think this phobia has been there since my childhood when I heard that kind of sound when people use a rock to scratch against a wok.

I don't really have a phobia that I can think of. I don't care for spiders or other creepy crawly things. Nothing really led to me not liking them, I just never did.

I don't really know if what I have is phobia, but I literally break out in cold sweats whenever I go down stairs and escalators, and when I stare down from the top of a building without any rails. This is sort of weird because whenever I go down and there are people in front of me blocking my vision when it comes to stairs/escalators .. and there is a rail I can lean on when I'm on top of a building when I stare down, I don't feel this sort of sweaty, clummy and gnawing feeling!!!I can't remember having accidents related to these things when I was little nor I've ever dreamed of being afraid of these things either. I don't know if I have a phobia or not, but whatever it is, maybe it's just a mild one.

Many people may feel a phobia to snakes, spiders, rabits and some creatures like this. For example, my mother fear snakes very much, everytime when she saw it, her skin will feel very uncomfortable and heart will strikly fiercely. And my brother who ever was frightten by a little fake rabit which was placed in his schoolbag by me on purpose.
