How much to You Stock up? When do you Restock?

I firmly believe in stocking up on things I know I will use and get them while on sale. However, how far "down" do you let your supply go before you start building it up again? I mean I have 5 large packages of toilet paper in the closet, so I let it go down to the last package and then hope I get it on sale soon, or start looking once on the second to last package? Or just next time I see it for a good price, buy 5 more and work down from 10? And "how many" do you think is a "good" amount to have "in stock"? I was watching a Wife Swap show while back and the one wife used an extra bathroom shower stall for holding her 'stock" of toilet paper and paper towels and napkins. It was so full she couldn't open the door to add more or get them out. With only 2 kids or whatever she had, what was there would have lasted a long time, but it showed her buying more and throwing it over the top... So... how much is to much, and how much is a good supply to have on hand?

More than having a set number of things to keep on hand, I usually go by how good the sale is and whether it is possible to get a particular item on short notice. For example, as we live next to a dollar store which has certain items such as TP and paper towels and peanut butter, so we don't stock up much on those things. But BigLots had huge bottles of our favorite brand of English Lavender liquid soap on sale for $1.50 each, so we bought 6 of them. If it gets to where the sundries are crowding our living space, we give it a rest.

Good buy! Yeah, I shop dollar store too. I tend to think also about the gas cost - if I run out, I have to drive to get it, and spend $3.30 a gallon - so if I buy "more" then it is longer between trips, thereby not costing as much gas. Sure is alot of calculating in saving money!
