What Purse do you carry?

In shopping for a new purse, I am always looking for the "right" purse. You know the one that has the right pockets in the right place. The one that doesn't have a lot of zippers and more compartments that you could imagen, so I have to literally search the entire purse looking for waht I want. I'm exhausted! I remember a cute article written by Erma Bombeck (even cut it out and put it in my high shcool scrapbook!) where her mother was a "neat freak" and gave erma a hard time cause she didn't put in the pockets what specifically went in the pockets. You know, a diaper in the pocket for passport and a pacifier in the hook for keys and chewing gum in the slot for comb.... What do you look for in a purse? Large, small, pockets, no pockets? Short strap, long strap, clutch or back pack? I'll buy one I like anad withint a month of so, get tired of carrying a large one nad get a small one. Then get tired for struggling through the small one and have to have a large one, until I get tired of carrying around a large one full of nothing necessary, and grab a small one again!

Right now I have a sling-bag, for a purse. It is some what like a backpack, but with one strap to be worn over one shoulder. I have a lot of purses that I switch out, for the same reasons you stated. i want a big one, then it is too big, so I get a smaller one, then I find it too small. I have a ciggie case that has a wallet on the back. Most of the time I just carry this. I have a BIG ring attached to it and I clip my keys on the ring. I keep my debit card, license, a couple of dollars and a few other things in it. Those are the only things I MUST have with me at all times. Most of the time I just leave my purse concealed in the car, and don't carry it with me when I go in a place.

Know where you are comin' from! I got small to large and back again too! Just bought one yesterday. Needed a bigger one than the one I had. Got one with some pockets so I could put things in to know where they were - you know the big pcoket in the middle is for the wallet and keys and other "big items". Side pocket for pencil, paper etc. One for coupons and othelr ittle paper stuff and a larger pocket on the other side for bigger paper kind of things, note pad, slots for credit cards (but I put other things in those.) But then today there I am, searching every pocket to find what I wanted! Good grief! I dont' think there is a happy medium for me!

I fall into the "compartment" trap a lot too! I had one that I LOVED and it did have several pockets and such. The nest couple of purses I bought were almost just like it and I was 'trained' to where stuff went, but I could not find one like it when my puppy chewed the strap on the last one. Just like always, when you find something you love, they stop making them!!!!

I don't carry a purse. About 20 years ago, a male colleague at the university remarked as I got up to walk away from a table, "You forgot your purse!" That is when I fully realized how pervasive gender stereotyping can be. I was wearing a tailored 2 piece business "suit" with hidden inside pockets where I stashed what I call "minimalist gear"--a PDA, comb, a few tissues, and a thin compact with room enough for one credit card and a little cash. The bulkiest object I had to carry was like a jailer's ring of keys, but those I clipped to my waist band with one of those retractable chain things, so they couldn't get lost or swiped. "Purse?" I asked him, then shook my head and walking away, mumbling, "I have no idea what he is talking about." (When traveling, I carry small pieces of luggage)
